Rome burns (and its hotels)

Anonim

If there is a city capable of rising from its ashes, it is Rome. He did it in the year 64 AD. during Principality of Nero, who took advantage of the great fire to build the grandiose Domus Aurea, and two decades later, Emperor Titus himself had to take care of its reconstruction after the fire that devastated the capital of the Empire for three days and three nights (it finished the Colosseum and gave the people and the Roman gods more than 100 days of games to inaugurate it). Almost two millennia have passed since then and, after a long period of pandemic, something is brewing in Rome: the Colosseum shows its entrails in the new route of the hypogeum (waiting to have a sand floor again), the Mausoleum dedicated to Augustus can finally be visited and the large hotel chains prepare to welcome the eager traveler in hotels, palaces and luxury villas. Rome is on fire and, soon, thanks to these new establishments, it will re-emerge as the phoenix that has always been, is and will be.

ANANTARA PALAZZO NAIADI

To sleep in any of the 238 rooms of the new Anantara Palazzo Naiadi is to do it on the history of Rome, classical and neoclassical: its meeting rooms are suspended above the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian and occupies a palace 19th century whose marble façade faces, like a crescent-shaped amphitheater, the Piazza della Republica.

Wine, food, wellness, art and culture are the pillars chosen by the brand to offer authentic roman experiences focusing on five key neighborhoods (rioni, in Italian): from incredible sunsets in enclaves to cooking classes with products from local markets. The roof terrace offers unparalleled views over the rooftops of Rome and its Spa Anantara will recover (and sublimate) the essence of authentic Roman baths.

W ROME

A W in the Eternal City? Of course, and specifically in two adjoining 19th century buildings located on Via Liguria, near Plaza de España and the fashion boutiques of Via Condotti. An unexpected and suggestive hotel for an unexpected and suggestive capital. Bringing 70s glamor to the interiors of the historic palace that occupies the W Roma the Meyer Davis study has been commissioned, that hopes to surprise us (it will open in October) with a very Italian color palette and bold graphic patterns in orange, red and green tones.

“We are inspired by the history of the city and we build our narrative from the incredible collage of cultures and influences -from antiquity to modernity- that make Rome one of the most desirable destinations in the world. This fusion of periods and visual elements creates another realm for guests to discover,” explains Will Meyer, co-founder of Meyer Davis.

Herringbone wooden floors, marble bathrooms, velvet curtains, oak doors and brass decorations shape its 162 rooms and suites –like exclusive apartments–. And in the common areas, the mural painted by Italian artist Costanza Alvarez de Castro, the W Lounge Bar (a curved structure of reflective mirrors with tropical leaf granite counter) and the Otto Rooftop, the roof terrace whose pool has been tiled with blue and white tiles by Gio Ponti.

We tell you a secret: behind a hidden door in the public bathroom, in the purest clandestine style, hides a romantic garden inspired by the church of Borromini Italian stone, with benches and water fountains.

THE ROME EDITION

Little is known about how will the new Edition Roma be, but we can tell you that the first Italian property in the fashion world's favorite hotel group will have 95 rooms and suites and that the Penthouse suite will boast a private terrace of 120 m2.

Located near Via Veneto and Bernini's Tritone Fountain in Piazza Barberini, The Rome EDITION recovers a historic building designed by Cesare Pascoletti In collaboration with Marcello Piacentini, one of the most famous architects of Italian rationalism of the early twentieth century. This means that you will be close to everything (the Trevi Fountain, the Villa Borghese gardens and the Spanish Steps) in case you want to go out and explore the heart of the city, but if, on the contrary, you want to enjoy the hotel as it deserves (and you deserve), many are the attractions it has to offer, such as a open air restaurant, a Punch Room Bar with signature cocktails and a roof terrace with a swimming pool.

SOHO HOUSE ROME

"Rome 1 - 0 Milan", says the local press on the imminent opening of Soho House Rome. And it is that the select luxury club born in London in the 90s has chosen, instead of the fashion capital, the country to open its first establishment in Italy. The hotel, which occupies ten floors of a building in the up-and-coming district of San Lorenzo (hot spot of the lively Roman nightlife), is located between via Cesare de Lollis, via dei Dalmati and via dei Vestini, north of Termini station.

Inspired by the artists' studios of the nearby Fundación Pastificio Cerer, which will be Europe's most coveted luxury residence (and membership) this fall it has 49 rooms and 20 long-stay apartments, a club with a bar that will occupy an entire floor, a House Kitchen, a Soho Health Club and a rooftop pool with bar and city views.

VILLA AGRIPPINA PRIVATE POOL SUITE

The Villa Agrippina Gran Meliá, built in the old villa of Agrippina, Néron's mother, is not new, but its Villa Agrippina Private Pool Suite, newly built within the property (remember that the hotel is framed within Orti Domiziani, the first botanical garden in Rome).

As an independent suite, the villa has 200 m2 distributed in several rooms: two bedrooms, terrace, gardens and a 32 m2 pool with countercurrent jets. All ultra private and ultra careful.

“Guests staying in the new villa will enjoy maximum privacy with the option to enjoy the breakfast in a beautiful patio or hire a private chef to enjoy the best outdoor dining experiences ”, they explain from the hotel.
