Bridal bouquets for horror movies and chess games hidden among flowers. So are the creations of Bornay , a small workshop Barcelona who has revolutionized floral art with his amazing works.

They started in 2008 and today they are already responsible for the decoration of hotels like the ** W Barcelona, Le Meridien ** or the Mandarin Oriental , have participated in events for major brands and their flowers have made cameos in feature films like REC.
Even people from all over the world come to your operations center to attend your workshops... but what do they have that everyone likes?
The workshop is an old dye factory from the 19th century
“Until now, floristry was understood as something very romantic, but floral decoration is not just for getting married -argues us Joan Xapelli, the creative director of the brand -. There is more travel ”, he assures. He is the one who started this little madness after working for many years as a salesperson in the florist sector.
“He knew the market, and he knew which countries to travel to to buy the raw material.” But that was not enough. “I joined this knowledge to my passions, I linked flowers to science fiction, to superhero comics, to the freaky world that fascinates me the most, to the movies… and that's how ** Bornay ** grew up”.
His office, in the middle of a 19th-century factory in the middle of Barcelona , gives it away. The pots coexist, among other gadgets, with a Hulk poster, books about the cosmos, a Batman figure and even a Chester sofa.
In all this adventure, two key names: Fatima and Martha . "They are the ones who handle the plants, the foams and the sprays." Because if something defines them, it is the use of paint. They were pioneers in using this technique, the first to paint flowers with aerosols.
With the colors they turn a painting into a bouquet Van Gogh and one of Matisse (this is their thing, passionate about art and literature).

With the foams, Joan invents a chessboard after getting caught by the movie about champion Bobby Fisher. Barcelona 92 leads them to recreate the sea of waves that filled the Olympic Stadium during the opening of the Games.
they also get a Tetris, a jellyfish, an elephant and even a rocket , while in foreign publications they are already labeled as the new Ferran Adriá. And of course, with so many proposals, it is not strange that they end up working for people like Lady Gaga or Depeche Mode.
Creativity as a flag
Now they collect some of their creations in the book ** Flower art. A contemporary workshop **, which Joan defines as "haute couture, because it's amazing, but it shows what can be done, the trend".
Even so, they do not hide anything and in it they reveal step by step how to make these amazing centers. “The most difficult thing is inspiration, that you come up with the idea”.
