The project is coordinated by the Pedro and Elena Hernandez Foundation since 2007, in charge of preserving the sculptures and protect the ecosystem that surrounds this natural work of art. Such is the beauty of the sculptural ensemble of Las Pozas that On November 23, 2012, it was declared a National Artistic Monument.

“The Edward James Sculpture Garden is a unique jewel in the world, it offers the rare opportunity to coexist with art and beautiful landscapes. We found nine hectares of an open-air sculpture museum where one can interact with 27 surreal structures , some of them more than three stories high. tells us Joe Richaud, Public Relations of the Pedro and Elena Hernández Foundation.

There was no better canvas than this Mexican scene, drawn by waterfalls and pools , natural or created, to immerse ourselves in a dream world. “What most surprises visitors is how the works are integrated into the landscape , as well as the exuberance of the vegetation”, points out Joe Richaud.

In this surreal labyrinth rise buildings that evoke nonsense, doors that give way to nothing, concrete stairs leading to heaven and flowers that grow at the same time as the natural ones.

Edward James began his creative process in the Las Pozas area with a spectacular orchid plantation and other species of the Huasteca Potosina , in addition to being home to different exotic animals such as deer, ocelots, snakes, flamingos and other birds.

“Edward James's lifestyle mimicked the surreal art that he always loved. He was a patron of a dozen artists that time later would become great figures in the art world such as: Dalí, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Stravinsky ”, explains Joe Richaud, Public Relations of the Pedro and Elena Hernández Foundation, to Traveler.es.

After a frost that he destroyed in 1962 with the vegetation , the artist decided to build the Sculpture Garden, with the help of more than 150 masons and local gardeners. Although it kept its charm a secret until 1991, the date on which its doors were opened to the public. A mystical and dreamlike place where jungle and cement merge.

"Definitely the Bamboo Palace is the most photographed place , is one of the works that causes the most interest, as well as the beautiful waterfalls and natural pools that delimit the property”, Joe Richaud tells Traveler.es.

Another of the key works is the Cinematograph , intended for the projection of films for the inhabitants of Xilitla. Edward James said that looking through the arch was like having a permanent screen towards the garden.
