'Zaragoza Florece': the landscape festival that will fill the city with flowers returns

The countdown begins for Saragossa become the city of flowers. The reason? The landscape festival is back ZGZ Blooms!

From May 26 to 29, the capital tomorrow hosts the second edition of this colorful event that last year became the big spring surprise from the city.

The epicenter of the festival is once again the Parque Grande Jose Antonio Labordeta, that will welcome, not only incredible floral installations made by associations of florists and artists of the sector but also, cultural and gastronomic proposals.

In addition, this year, #ZGZFlorece extends to other places in the city such as the Plaza de España and other squares, the tram stops, the streets of the Tube, the historic center and some emblematic facades.

The gastronomic section will have 10 food trucks and a path through 49 establishments who will join the floral party with their culinary and cocktail proposals.

Zaragoza Florece "is committed to generating value around our city as a habitable place, with attributes such as sustainability, nature and value of organic in people's life. A playful, friendly and sustainable way of promote the Zaragoza brand, creating suggestive spaces for the senses that are determined to attract and welcome the whole family”, they point out from the organization.

The first edition, in 2021, had a great turnout and 100% occupancy in the performances and gauged areas: 175,000 people enjoyed this floral fair and the Flower market and the gastronomic area reaped sales above expectations.

In this new edition, the venue used in the Parque Grande will be 30% larger, the same proportion in which it will increase the number of flowers used, which will reach 65,000.

FLOWER SHOWS

The festival will feature six floral interventions (compared to four in the last edition) and they will be placed in: the Stairway of the Battler, the Music Kiosk, the Neptune Fountain, the Bridge of the Singer-songwriters, the Botanical Garden and Isabel Zapata Marín Street.

Those in charge of transforming those places? Master florists with great national and international recognition as Carles J. Fontanillas, Myriam Aznar, Rosa Valls and Sefa Tur –who already participated last year– and Carlos Curbelo, Guillermo Lasso and the Association of Florists of Aragon –This year's new additions–.

Carlos Curbelo, Master Florist by the Escola d'Art Floral de Catalunya in 2015, will be in charge of decorating the Battler's Staircase with your exposure royal victories, inspired by the decorations of medieval castles.

The Neptune Fountain will also be filled with flowers by the hand of William Lasso , superior technician of Plastic Arts and Floral Art Design. lasso will work directly on the source structure and will adapt it to his figure with different flowers and textures.

Carles J. Fontanillas, current champion of the Spanish Cup of Floral Art , will display all his talent in the Music Kiosk. This year, Fontanillas' work will focus on joy, romanticism and musical sensitivity with a cascade of color that will shelter the artists perform at the Kiosk.

The florist from Zaragoza and director of the School of Artisan Florists of Aragon Myriam Aznar participates again in the Zaragoza Florece festival with an installation in the Songwriters Bridge, through which you access the park and the festival. Myriam will welcome us with six doors that recreate a rainbow.

In the Isabel Zapata Martin Street , the artist Rose Valls will project huge floral arches between the trees and finally, the Zaragoza Botanical Garden, will host the exhibitions of the Association of Artisan Florists of Aragon, whose members will create The Forest of Dreams designing six circles in which they will recreate trees with different shades.

The Flower market will be another of the highlights of the festival, as this year it doubles its physical space in the Stroll San Sebastian with around 30 stalls that will have five meters of floral exhibition each.

TIME TO EAT!

The gastronomic offer of Zaragoza flourishes will be divided into two zones: the Gastronomic area and the Picnic zone.

In the Gastronomic area , located on Paseo San Sebastián, we will find a street market launched by the Association of Foodtrucks of Aragon and made up of ten caravans that will serve food and drinks from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Once you have your food and drink, you will be able to access both picnic areas that are enabled near the Music Kiosk.

In this edition of the festival, the Picnic Zone will feature several DJs every day: Rialto DJ, Penguinsandcat, Eleven, Sweetdrinkz and Curreya.

You can't miss either 49 million , a path of 49 catering establishments which, from May 19 to 29, will join –and anticipate– Zaragoza Florece with dishes, tapas, snacks, brunch or mixology for all tastes.

MUSIC PROGRAM

The music and performances will focus much of the programming, multiplying by four the number of planned artists, from 11 in 2021 to about 40 this year. The musical spaces are also expanded in this edition and in addition to the music kiosk , this year there will be performances in l to the Escalinata del Batallador, the new Arboleda, the Bridge of the Singer-songwriters and the two spaces of the Picnic Zone.

From classical music to the most urban through jazz, folk and pop: the flowers will have a soundtrack at all times.

On Saturday 28 it will be the turn of: Jesús Ortiz, Almendra Garrapiñá, Big Moon, The Street Foxes, Parientes, Izaro, Delacueva and dj Eleven.

The bonsai They will also be present at Zaragoza Florece. The Zaragoza Bonsai Cultural Association will expose some 25 copies, some of them over 50 years old.

This edition will focus on native bonsai, mainly olive trees, although there will be very special pieces of Japanese bonsai, such as maples.

In addition to the exhibition, they will hold two workshops: ‘Bring your bonsai’ (you can come with your bonsai and the members of the Zaragoza Bonsai Cultural Association will advise you and give you tips to improve your specimen) and the ‘Children’s and youth workshop to create bonsai’ (in which they will teach how to create bonsai with seedlings).

For the first time, Zaragoza Flores comes out of the Parque Grande with several interventions in different parts of the city that will be carried out by Zaragoza florists.

Thus, to the central stops of the Tram, will be added special decorations on buildings of Caja Rural de Aragón, Heraldo de Aragón, the Gran Hotel, the Teatro Principal and the Chamber of Commerce , as well as in some businesses such as love story on the Gran Via.

Likewise, El Corte Inglés has organized a flower exhibition in its Cultural Area of ​​Independence from May 3 to 31, children's workshops and, in its restaurant in Sagasta, it will offer a special dessert with edible flowers as protagonists.

The Plaza de España and the Plaza de las Aguadoras, in the neighborhood of Las Fuentes, they will also wear floral outfits thanks to the Association of Florists of Aragon.

An essential event? The Tube Blooms , hosted by Zaragoza Essential , in which the four main access streets to this area will be decorated with flowers, an initiative that will be extended to all those establishments that wish to join it.

On the municipal side, the Park Service will also intervene in Alfonso and Don Jaime streets.
