The Santa Barbara Palace of Madrid welcomes, from February 12 to June 5 , The exhibition Andy Warhol. super pop , in which we can see some of his most emblematic works, such as the famous Campbell's soup, Mao or Marilyn Monroe.
The sample is presented as an authentic journey through the America of the 50s, 60s and 70s in which we can discover many facets of one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.

WARHOL, 40 YEARS LATER
In January 1983, Andy Warhol inaugurated in Madrid Guns, Knives and Crosses , the first individual painting exhibition that the artist held in Spain.
The exhibition took place in the gallery Fernando Vidande , one of the most important promoters of contemporary art in the 70s and 80s and an essential piece of the Madrilenian scene.
Vijande brought Warhol to Spain almost 40 years ago and the importance of this milestone is still being commented on today, when we receive the great news of a new exhibition on this icon that has marked generations of artists, curators, filmmakers and designers to the present day.

MUCH MORE THAN POP ART

Andrew Warhola, better known as Andy Warhol, was one of the founders and precursors of Pop Art (Pop Art), the artistic movement that emerged in the mid-twentieth century in response to the Abstract Expressionism (associated with elitist) that is inspired by everyday life and consumer goods of the time.
Contrary to the elitist culture, pop artists used images and themes borrowed from consumer society and mass communication – advertisements, comics, objects from the cinematographic universe, etc. – and applied them to art.
Andy Warhol is probably the most famous figure in Pop Art, but his career (impossible to separate from his personal life) it transcends all the barriers that a single artistic movement can raise.
If there is one constant in the forty years of the artist's professional career, that is the innovation, worth the paradox. Warhol managed to innovate, renew and invent over and over again, through a production that combines marketing, art history, Fashion, music, graphic design and the world of cinema, photography and entertainment.

THE ROUTE
The exhibition makes a historical and professional journey through the Warhol universe , noticing the numerous sectors in which he worked.
The beginning of his career coincides with the end of the 1940s, when he moved to New York and began to collaborate with different fashion magazines and design covers for books and music albums.
In the 1950s he already had a certain reputation and went on to establish himself as a respected designer. His first individual exhibition was in the Californian gallery Ferusel in 1962.
Four months later he inaugurated his first exhibition in New York, at the Stable gallery, which included works such as Marilyn Diptych or the famous Campbell's soup cans , which we can see in Andy Warhol. Super Pop.
'Cow'.
In the 1960s, Warhol founded his famous studio The Factory, a place of meeting and creation that became the epicenter of the (not only) artistic world of New York.
The exhibition includes Warhol's polaroids made with his famous Big Short camera, emblematic works of stars and models and also makes an interesting approach to the link between fashion and art through the use of new supports such as t-shirts, that the artist used as if they were canvases, to make serigraphs from other artists.
Andy Warhol. Super Pop also hosts works by the Serie Ladies and Gentlemen, created between 1974 and 1975. Is about a lesser-known collection of the artist, However, in recent years it has undergone an excellent revaluation process.
The series consists of a set of portraits of the Drag Queens and Transgender community of the Big Apple, among which stands out the one that Warhol dedicated to Marsha P Johnson , an activist of LGBTI movement thanks to which the rights of the collective began to be defended.
