In defense of the 'vacaturas', that is, of the 'reading vacations'

Can you imagine finally having time to read?

A vacation just to read. Not to run from monument to monument, not to take pictures of the horizon, not to go from the beach bar to the hammock. A vacation, we have said, to read, like the ones before, when the infinite confines of school break opened before you and you lay in bed turning pages and more pages, linking one universe to another.

"Would it be possible?" I often ask myself. Why not make, for example, Book Day a national holiday and declare it 'Official Reading Day' in Spain? (although even better if it became a bridge!) .

I'm talking about a kind of Black Friday of reading, in which, instead of going crazy buying, we go crazy reading. I imagine it as an oasis in the midst of the maelstrom of time: that day, no one would expect anything from anyone , because it would be known - as is known, for example, on New Year's - that it is forbidden to disturb, that everyone is out of circulation.

And what a joy to read without receiving calls, with email as out of range! In my utopia, not even the cars can be heard : Why would anyone want to go outside at a time like this? Of course, there would be those who did not want to read during that -glorious- day, and it would be respectable: the only condition that we would put on the 'rebels' would be that of not disturbing the rest.

BACK TO REALITY

Under the clouds. I know that my proposal will not have an effect - although you never know: in Iceland something similar already happens on Christmas Eve -. What to do then? Our proposal: that you yourself take action on the matter and book a vacation just to read.

An extra, moreover, would be not having to take care of anything, neither making the bed, nor preparing the food. But neither to walk, nor to enter museums. Not necessarily secluded, but barricaded enough to be able to immerse yourself in the world that awaits, asleep in the ink traces. Lowering, in general, the expectations regarding the modern concept of 'travel', and learning a little about those small town vacations that many of us used to hate.

** We would do it in these places **, which we hope will inspire you to take your own 'holidays'. That is, your 'reading vacation'. Yes, the name is not very good: we are still working on it. But the idea itself, you won't be able to deny it, sounds pretty cool.
