As if it were about building a house (pun intended), the fundamental pillars of the different Naterra accommodations they were cemented with the letter 'D': disconnect, rest and discover.

Naterra has 30,000 square meters of land, where sleep under the stars, connect with nature without giving up the comforts of modern life, being surprised (and also falling in love) with Galicia will be part of the experience.

Three accommodations to enjoy and rest in one of the wildest areas of the Rías Altas

TO THE NORTH OF THE NORTH: THE WILDEST GALICIA

Does the most beautiful bench in the world located on the cliffs of Loiba sound familiar to you? Or maybe you have heard about the magical sunsets at the Cabo Ortegal Lighthouse? Naterra is halfway between these two very special places, in the region of Ortegal (A Coruña). We could say that Naterra is located north of north, just half an hour by car from Cabo de Estaca de Bares, the northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, where the great mass of Atlantic water 'separates' from the Cantabrian Sea.

Ortegal does not understand overcrowding or buildings. Not boring either. Here it is possible to enjoy the sea touring the Ladrido and Ortigueira estuaries on SUP or surfing on the beaches of Espasante and Esteiro. You can also marvel at the wild horses in Vixia of Herbeira, fall in love with the views the cliffs of love and visit charming little towns like San Andrés de Teixido, Ortigueira or O Barqueiro.

THREE ACCOMMODATIONS, THREE WAYS TO EXPERIENCE NATURE

Naterra was born with the aim of preserve native vegetation, avoiding eucalyptus plantations and creating accommodations that blend in with the environment. “Here you can find carballos, castiñeiros and oaks. We want to respect the trees, that is why each accommodation has a reason in its location”, explains Arturo Sánchez, one of the founders of this project.

It has three types of experiences converted into accommodation: To Tenda, inspired by safari tents but with all the comforts; To Salvaxe, a glamping that rises above the ground on a wooden platform in the middle of the forest; and finally, Gallecia, a beautiful rural house of stone and wood.

Perhaps A Tenda is the accommodation that attracts the most attention. Located in an open space and surrounded by trees, this beautiful safari tent It has the best views towards the Ortigueira and Ladrido estuary. “We conceived this accommodation as an open space. Why be inside the house when you have all this nature and you can enjoy the outdoors? Arturo asks rhetorically as he highlights the beautiful terrace with its kitchen and outdoor lounge.

In addition, within the limitations because "being one hundred percent sustainable is not easy", the founder of Naterra points out that, apart from having electricity connected to the current, they have opted for add solar panels with the aim of being energy independent progressively. They also have Drinking water that comes from a private spring.

“It is an idyllic place to disconnect and rest in one of the wildest areas of Galicia. I have traveled a lot and visited incredible countries, but this place has something special. Its overflowing nature and its remote location often makes you feel like an explorer in your own country”.

And it is that Naterra born from the concept 'on earth' because the accommodations are integrated into nature and the magic of the environment will make you live an experience that money cannot buy.

HOW DID NATERRA COME ABOUT?

Behind Naterra, there are two young people in their thirties who are in charge, not only of creating this original concept of accommodation, but also of transmit the message of caring for and valuing our home: the Earth. They met more than 10 years ago through surfing. Pablo Macineira he is in love with the sea and a full-fledged traveler. This Galician has lived and has been formed in the Canary Islands, Portugal and the Reunion Islands, among other places. But his "terra galega" was always present and a few years ago he established Ortegal Surf School, the first and only surf school based in the Ortegal region.

Secondly, Arthur Sanchez he is a Valencian who has found his second home in Galicia. An expert in audiovisual communication and marketing, he is the one who makes sure that we all see Naterra as the project that it is: a concept born from passion and love for the sea, the land and Galicia.

“It arose from the vital moment of each one. We had similar concerns: I wanted to contribute my knowledge in terms of communication and marketing and Pablo had always wanted to develop accommodations in a natural environment. In addition, he is an engine of energy that promotes his land and, although he has traveled to many countries, he has returned to his origins to create this project and contribute something different to his native Galicia”, says Arturo .

“So, in the summer of 2020, after having thought about it a lot during confinement, we decided that this project had to go ahead. As of Christmas we began to look for the type of accommodation and the implementation has been very fast”.

VISIT GALICIA IN AUTUMN, A SAFE BET

"We have treasures around the corner and we don't know our own land," Arthur explains. Everything we have experienced in the last year and a half has made us wake up - some more than others - and appreciate how beautiful our country is. National and even local tourism has taken an important role in the way we travel. "That's why from Naterra, We encourage all Galicians to explore their Galician land because it will surprise them”.

After the summer season, Naterra wants to bet on weekend experiences to promote regional tourism in autumn. “This area is not very touristy. Yes, there is an increase in people in places of interest, but The Ortegal is still very wild and has a lot to offer. The profile of people who come here is an active tourism, that wants to start the day and walk the paths and trails”, Arthur tells.

“Naterra is not a place to spend a night like in a hotel. Discovering its coast, its forests and meeting its people will be part of the experience. It doesn't matter when it is and, as they say here: yes cool, what cool!”
