A space to disconnect from the asphalt

Define PARK vancouver In a nutshell, it's a bit complicated. From an architectural point of view, it is a work of lines, curves, slopes and colors that surprises and acquires meaning when it is understood that this building, as if it renounced its urban origins, what it wants is to establish a dialogue with the imposing nature that surrounds this Canadian city.

If we focus on its functionality, PARQ is a space open to travelers who come to stay in one of its two luxury hotels, to the inhabitants of the city who want to try the gastronomic offer of their eight restaurants or get fit in your gym with spa , to business people who need a space for events and meetings , those who wish to play with luck in their casino and to those who, and here we get into the matter, want to enjoy the jewel in the crown: a garden in height of almost 3,000 square meters from which to contemplate the Vancouver skyline.

Nature comes to downtown Vancouver

Located on the sixth floor of the complex, this garden becomes an authentic urban retreat thanks to more than 200 pine trees and 15,000 native plants that make it up and among which it is easy to get lost to forget the hustle and bustle of a city that has some 600,000 inhabitants. A form of introduce nature into the urban environment and provide a sustainable element to this project developed by ACDF Architecture, Architecture49 and IBI Group.

Account from ACDF Architecture Maxime-Alexis Frappier, its director, that “the mountains, gorges, eternal snow and green valleys at the back of the city inspired the architectural concept [of the building]. Parq Vancouver is a mixed-use project that we wanted it to have an outdoor meeting space for all users of the complex, a bucolic place in the heart of the city” , specifically between the Yaletown and Gastown neighborhoods, next to the BC Place stadium.

The garden, which is accessed both by customers of the establishments and occasional visitors, offers multitude of spaces suitable for dedicating oneself to the pleasant task of strolling feeling a little closer to nature, but also able to organize events.

Silence, this is disconnected

“The design of this outdoor space was done in collaboration with landscape designers from PFS Studio in Vancouver. They were able to create a place that offers a multitude of complementary thematic spaces each other,” explains Frappier.

Spaces that, in short, are becoming increasingly important at a time when we are witnessing widespread urban densification.

“We believe that this urban compactness can contribute to the environment, but we also believe that it is absolutely necessary to offer more open spaces, whether they are public, semi-public or private”, reflects Frappier and later concludes: “with this idea in mind we designed the PARQ project. We wanted to offer its users a good outdoor location for meetings, exchanges, tranquility and animation. Although the garden is not directly accessible from the street, it contributes to creating a pleasant and suitable urban environment in a context of significant densification”.
