In the last few weeks we have seen the citizens speak with fervor in USA and in different parts of the world under the motto #BlackLivesMatter , a movement that since 2013 fights impetuously for freedom, inclusion and to eradicate the injustices that occur in the XXI century.

In this context, the opening of the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) in Nashville, the first space dedicated exclusively to educating, celebrating and preserving the influence of African Americans in the music industry.

The museum will open to the public next September 3 , within the framework of Labor Day weekend, seeking to offer music lovers a complete immersion in genres such as country, jazz, hip hop , gospel, blues and R&B.

And what better location than Nashville , the heart of Tennessee known as the City of Music, a place that throughout history has welcomed more than 6 million African-Americans and that over the years has seen the birth of artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles either Little Richard.

Although the idea of ​​giving life to an establishment that praises the origin and trajectory of the african american music is not recent, in fact, it dates back to 2002, when the members of the Chamber of Commerce of the Area of Nashville set out to begin negotiations to set up a project that offers various cultural offers to residents and travelers.

So, after evaluating and determining that the initiative was viable, they launched the project. “The investigation concluded that Nashville needed to incorporate a site that would attract more African-American traditions and, at the same time, visitors. In addition, to persuade people of all socioeconomic levels to learn, experiencing a musical and cultural perspective that only Nashville can offer”, declares H. Beecher Hicks III, president & CEO of NMAAM to Traveler.es

During the tour it will be possible to delve into a totality of six permanent exhibitions and an itinerant one, -in addition to a library- that will include immersive experiences, spaces dedicated to jazz history , blues or an understanding about the human rights movement.

The main corridor, called 'Rivers of rhythm' will be the epicenter of the museum, with a display of interactive screens and a timeline that connects the United States history with the musical genres in question.

In turn, it will host a collection of more than 1500 instruments, garments, sheet music and memories that intend to immerse you in a cultural journey that extends from the 17th century to the present.

“From our communication team to the construction company, we are hiring black companies to help us be part of the history we are creating with the museum ”, declares the president.

Within its 17,000 meters they will show films, organize concerts and also conferences, hoping to attract more than 400,000 annual visitors, including some 140,000 from the Tennessee area.

Starting from the opening, which will take place on September 3, a series of events will be held, created especially for the Nashville community , while seeking to transmit to the world the imprint of the african american music American.
