When the Madrid metro map takes you on a trip through Europe

And suddenly a journey from Puerta del Ángel to the Philippine Islands becomes a journey from Antwerp to Bremen

You may have seen it a lot, so seen that you know it by heart and you no longer even need to consult the Madrid metro map when you go from one stop to another. But there are those who don't. There are those who look at it carefully, who entertain themselves by investigating its colored lines and in that look and look he discovers curious correspondences that make a journey from Puerta del Ángel to the Philippine Islands become a journey from Antwerp to Bremen.

This is the conclusion he came to. Massimo Pietrobon when one day he was walking around Madrid. “Looking at the map of the capital's metro lines, I noticed a similarity. Beneath the geometry of the many lines, I was looking at the map of Europe”, explains to Traveler.es.

Surprised by this intuition, Pietrobon put it black on white and he overlapped the Madrid metro map on one of our continent to see what connections could be made.

“It caught my attention that a place like MetroSouth, which is generally on the margin and isolated for those who move through the center, becomes an important reference because it is Spain. In addition, a prominent, large and extensive Spain”, he says.

Pietrobon is Italian. Hence, the connections between stops and Italian cities also caught his attention. For this reason, although he left the little town in which he was born some 30 kilometers from Venice a long time ago, he cannot help noticing that Conde de Casal would be the station where he would have to get off to get to Verona, as close as he could get to the city of him.

In any case, Pietrobon assures that what he likes is that “almost every country in Europe has its metro stop represented within the Madrid metro”. It is already known: from Madrid to heaven and now also to the rest of Europe.
