87% of travelers in the world say they want to make their trips more sustainable for the future. This is confirmed by the recent study Sustainable Travel Report published by Booking.es on the occasion of Earth Day, last April. 60% of travelers indicated that their main motivation is natural landscapes, to preserve them in order to continue enjoying them.

Ecotourism and sustainability are some of the trends that we have seen on the rise in recent months, as we have commented on Traveler.es. With this, the LeLynx.fr travel platform has sought to rank the most popular ecological destinations on Instagram. This analysis was carried out based on sources such as Expedia Y Blue and Green Tomorrow , as well as tracking the number of hashtags each location had on Instagram.

In addition, alternative names that could lead to the same location were considered, for example #slakannecy, #lakannecyfrance and #lakeanncytravel. Once the figures for Instagram hashtags were collected for each of the locations, they were ranked from highest to lowest based on the sum total of the hashtags. The report was completed in February 2022.

THE FRENCH RIVIERA IN THE LEAD

Which have been the results? They mainly highlight that the most sought-after destination is french riviera , with nearly 5 million hashtags. The Côte d'Azur is not only a beach and fairytale cities, but it is also one of the main tourist destinations that started the revolution towards sustainability in the last century. "The tourist who decides to visit this magical place can stroll through the lavender fields of Grasse, the medieval villages of Èze or simply enjoy the sun on its many beaches," they underline.

The second most Instagrammed organic French destination is Brittany, with 1.3 million hashtags. With many recycling and energy saving initiatives, Brittany ecotourism is recognized by the standard Green Destinations.

In third place, with just over 1 million hashtags on Instagram, Angers is the third most popular organic French destination . The French city in the Loire Valley offers many parks and gardens where you can walk and enjoy nature. In fact, in Angers you will find an organic garden full of different varieties of plants, herbs, vegetables and fruits.

It could not be missing from this list, Mont Saint-Michel with 577,517 hashtags on the platform. Mont Saint-Michel was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979 for being one of the most important natural and architectural monuments in the country, as well as one of the favorites of tourists from all over the world.
