Limpiaventura, the movement to end plastics on the island.
Alina Kunz, the director and founder of Limpiaventura, has always been fascinated by the sea , by her sea, that of Fuerteventura. She has always had a close relationship with him, in fact, she was doing apneas when she realized that she could do something to end the marine debris which was between turtles and dolphins.
“ More than four and a half years ago I started Clean Adventure . The first cleaning I did alone encouraged by two friends. I took some photos, and the next day, it was a Sunday, I managed to get eight people to join. From there the movement was born”, he tells Traveler.es.
It was in 2015 when she decided to set up the association that is in charge of clean the beaches of the island . “We clean coasts throughout the island, although rather in the north (Corralejo and Puerto Rosario). There are areas especially affected by currents, such as coffee … ”, she adds.
In their campaigns to clean these beaches they have found things as crazy as a whole toilet, vibrators, washing machines, televisions and even a bench to sit on.
Thanks to your constant work they manage to bring together all kinds of people every Sunday , from young people to children or tourists. At the local level, they carry out cleaning of the Majorera coasts , educational workshops in schools (these are given free of charge), institutes, summer camps for the disabled and adult training centers . In addition, the association organizes and participates in environmental events.
Sundays start with a cleaning meeting through Whatsapp (you can also follow everything they do through social networks) . They usually meet on the dot and from there they all leave in shared cars.
“ On the beach we offer gloves and bags , and we take care of recycling and waste disposal. The cleaning culminates with a social gathering that fosters the idea of sharing and union: a picnic on the beach ”.
Since its inception, Cleaner has been received with open arms and has been adding more and more volunteers. Currently, the association is made up of about 10 people , about 60 partners , in addition to volunteers who participate in a timely manner in cleaning tasks. They do not have subsidies and They are financed with donations and with what the partners and their teaming contribute. (donations of 1 euro per month) .
“The most beautiful thing about our project is that we go to schools and institutes, we reach children and young people, who in the future will be able to change the world ”, Alina tells Traveler.es.
The future for them continues to increase their network of volunteers and sponsors "to be able to continue with the school project and with our weekly cleanings."
