Sandbäcksgården

Rural and centenary love in a village in Sweden

Yes, we recognize it, we have a great little obsession with the towns . Pure air, nature, a horizon clear of all traffic and pollution, home-cooked food cooked over low heat and with high doses of culinary wisdom passed down from generation to generation.

"One day I'll leave everything and go live in the village" It is not a set phrase that we resort to when stress gets the better of us. It is a reality, and it is that last year, Almost four and a half million Spaniards chose rural environments as their destination, more than twice as many as five years ago.

Our latest rural crush has an unpronounceable Swedish name and it is the perfect house, in the perfect town where you can feel like that Pippi Longstocking who became the heroine of our childhood.

Sandbäcksgården is located in Hole, one of the best cultural environments in the town of Malung , Dalarna province and is for sale!

And where do you live? In a town in Sweden

SANDBÄCKSGÅRDEN: COUNTRY LOVE (SWEDISH)

The word Sandbäcksgården It is somewhat complicated, we know, but when you read all its attractions you will soon learn to pronounce its name.

Located in the small town of Malung, in Sweden, the house is actually divided into two houses dating from the early twentieth century, in the middle of a 6000 square meter plot.

The main building was built in 1915 and next to it we find the second building , with a house on the first floor and a leather workshop, an office and a guest room on the ground floor.

Who has not dreamed of having a small house attached to the main house where they can set up their own studio to paint, write, draw or simply say that it is "their studio"? We confess: we do.

A garden of roses, lilacs and shrubs surrounds the property , combining perfectly with the wallpaper in the hallway of the main house.

Sandbäcksgården: a home with a century of history

A HOME WITH HISTORY

In the 1870s, What had previously been a farm was taken over by one of the founders of modern Malung, Pell Per Andersson.

It was his grandson who came to build the current main building at the beginning of the 20th century: a two-storey villa whose design is probably attributed to the Malung architect Per Henriks.

The house was very modern for its time and was one of the first private homes in the town to have electricity.

In the 30s, some changes and small reforms were made inside but since then, the place is still intact. The exterior is exactly the same as it was in 1915 when it was completed.

IN THE HEAT OF THE STOVE

The facades have been scraped and painted with linseed oil paint in the same tone as the original. Window frames and porches, meanwhile, have received a slightly updated color.

A huge double door leads into the hall, with surprisingly preserved woodwork ; although, despite the excellent condition of the house, we have to say that lovers of reforms and restorations will be happy to know that still work for the next owner , because the roof is covered with gabled tiles and together with the base, it needs a review.

The house has a total of five rooms, three of them bedrooms. On the ground floor we find the kitchen and a living room, both with the traditional Swedish tiled stove, decorated in the purest Art Nouveau style, that makes us dream of long evenings in the heat of the fire, accompanied by glasses of wine, checkered blankets and thousands of books.

AT THE END OF THE STAIRS

On the upper floor, possibly furnished a little later than the ground floor, the hallway walls are decorated with original wallpaper from 1910.

Originally, this floor had three bedrooms but the largest was converted into a kitchen in the 1930s , and of course, it also has another tiled stove, which are scattered throughout the house. Here there is also a wood stove and a zinc bench.

The other two rooms have wallpaper from the 30's and linoleum rugs from the 20's and 30's.

A WORKSHOP OF DREAMS

By the mid-1930s, the family's leather company had grown so large that they needed larger premises, so they decided to build a two-story building with housing on the upper floor and a leather workshop, office and warehouse (converted into a bedroom) on the ground floor.

The exterior doors are from the 70's and both the paint and the ceiling are in need of updating. The workshop on the ground floor has not been touched since the middle of the 20th century and in recent years has served as a studio for artists who fell in love with its huge windows and its particular charm.

Also remaining here, witnesses to the passing of time, are two sewing machines, order books, envelopes and other objects with the brand of the old company.

A kitchen from the 50s, two bedrooms and a small bathroom coexist on the top floor. Geothermal heating was installed in 2013.
