Seven perfect 'dog friendly' beaches to enjoy with your dog this summer

Traveling with dogs is never a problem. Your furry four-legged friend is part of the family and must always travel with you. Unfortunately in Spain, Although we take great care of our beaches, we still have a long way to go when it comes to canine beaches. But we have good beaches for dogs. We have selected some of the best, perfect for each type of plan.

1. TOWER OF THE SEA (MALAGA)

It is possibly one of the best dog beaches in our country. The dog beach of Torre del Mar is very close to the mouth of the Vélez River and has been recognized as the first Andalusian dog beach with the Q certification for tourist quality.

It is very large, almost 4,000 square meters and being an urban beach you have everything you need close by. Your dog will see it as an amusement park since one of the areas is equipped with swings for dogs with ramps, wheels and even a jump ring for the most intrepid.

Everything is perfectly marked and fenced so it allows some relaxation. In addition, another option is the nearby dog beach of Torrox. Long live the Axarquia!

Where to eat: with dogs in Torre del Mar you have it complicated because pets are not usually allowed in almost any restaurant. Maybe with luck you can be with them on the terraces next to the lighthouse or in some beach bars in Torrox. But just in case, bring a fridge.

2.LA RUBINA (GIRONA)

This beach is within the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park and is recognized as the first canine beach we had in our country.

It is of fine sand, far from the odious beaches of pebbles and grants the pleasure of enjoy the bath with your furry friend without having buildings around you to spoil the landscape.

It has three very positive values: it is one of the cleanest dog beaches in Spain , which allows the realization of water sports such as kitesurfing and that it's not very crowded so there is more than enough space. It also has its shadows: there are no showers or disabled access (as in almost all of them).

Where to eat: Next to the beach is Camping Castell Mar, the place to stay and eat. Here they have menus for children, for adults and even for dogs. It is not the summum of gastronomy but you have the complete pack.

3.LLEVANT (BARCELONA)

It is the urban beach par excellence. Hundreds of Barcelonans gather at this stretch of Llevant beach to spend the day with their pets.

Located next to the port, this beach has fine and pleasant sand and a lot of services just a step away, Well, the Diagonal shopping center is just opposite.

It is one of the best equipped beaches in the province, as it has showers, drinking fountains, rubbish bins (this is much appreciated) and is generally quite clean. As a negative point, perhaps the pipican part is a little tiny considering that the capacity of the beach is 100 dogs and that at this time of year there can be complicated queues to enter.

Where to eat: Barcelona is one of the cities with the most pet friendly restaurants in the country. The interesting thing is to get into the city and discover some of them like Bistrot Levante (Manuel Ribé, 1) in the Gothic quarter, a small place where our furry ones are welcome and that takes you to the Middle East without leaving Barcelona.

4.CALETA DELS GOSSETS (ALICANTE)

This small cove is usually very crowded in summer as it is located in front of a protected nature reserve next to Cape Santa Pola. It has fine black sand, which is appreciated and its access is very controlled.

The day at the beach can be completed with a walk on the mountain in front of the cape and take the perfect snapshot of the sea. It has a parking lot nearby that is quite more than acceptable.

Perhaps its small size and the absence of footbaths is what can detract from this beach, but it is still the most popular in the province of Alicante by dog lovers.

Where to eat: In the cove there is a very cool beach bar where dogs are more than welcome. Is he Rocky's Beach, Roque's beach bar, a place where you can eat a skewer, fried fish, a sandwich and with cold beer.

5.PINEDO (VALENCIA)

It is one of the youngest beaches and access with pets is only allowed during the summer months. This year it has increased its surface by 50% allowing a capacity of 600 people , separated from Pinedo beach by posts and buoys in the water.

It has many positive points like surveillance, showers for people and fresh water hose for your dog. As a negative point the parking lot is too small and the proximity of the rocks to the beach does not invite much.

Where to eat: at the Maremar restaurant, on Pinedo beach, It is possible to eat with your furry friend but it must be on the terrace. Ideal to eat a little rice or fish of the day. They can put it for you to take away in case you prefer to eat on the beach.

These fabulous canine beaches are located in one of the largest Galician paradises, O Grove. With a familiar and relaxed atmosphere, although perhaps the touch of the sand, somewhat coarser than normal and with gravel, is not entirely pleasant.

In addition to being a fairly clean beach, here your dog is not forced to be tied as in other beaches. The most positive is, without a doubt, the calm and relaxation that is breathed. On the other hand, if you don't wear flip flops you will have serious problems with your feet. It is not a joke.

Where to eat: in O Grove it is possible to enjoy a wine from Cambados with good seafood rice next to your best friend. Where? At the Herlogón restaurant (Rúa do Corgo, 5), a Galician tavern very close to the port where pets are allowed.

**7.CAMPOSOTO (CADIZ) **

Located in San Fernando, where you can go for a little while on foot and another while walking as Manolo García used to sing. And indeed you have to walk, almost 20 minutes. Since to access the beach you have to walk a long way; It is not close to the parking lot or the main access.

The beach has quite a few stones but it is very calm and has a shower for dogs. As a strong point, it must be said that the water is very clean and the natural setting where it is located is spectacular. It has an extension superior to the average of the canine beaches although it has a large black dot: the dog cannot be loose. Fines are the order of the day.

Where to eat: the dog beach does not have a beach bar nearby, so here We also recommend pulling the fridge, just for not traveling the almost 2 kilometers back to the access.
