Are you a responsible traveler? Do you take into account your ecological footprint when you travel? Now that Google helps you find the most sustainable flights, all you have to do is find the destination. We help you with the list of the 100 most sustainable destinations of the year , those who dedicate their efforts to proposing a tourism more in line with their ecosystems.
For the seventh consecutive year, we know these destinations thanks to Green Destinations , a non-profit foundation for the development and recognition of sustainable tourism destinations. On October 26, the new 2021 list was made public in a ceremony broadcast online from the Netherlands, where 3,000 places from 80 countries participated.
After the pandemic, many of them have taken the opportunity to improve their tourism practices, an effort that has been valued by the jury when choosing them as a world reference in sustainable tourism.
Thanks to Green Destinations, in 2020 we learned which were the most sustainable places in Spain, this year we also appear on the list, although with fewer destinations. Berguedà, the Menorca Biosphere Reserve, Noja, Terres de l'Ebre and Torroella de Montgrí-L'Estartit They are the selected ones.
Titicaca National Reserve.
JAPAN, PORTUGAL AND PERU
These three countries are the ones with the most destinations on the list. In this sense, Japan takes the cake because it has up to 12 destinations in the country.
While our neighboring country, Portugal, has 10, including in Auroca UNESCO Heritage Geopark , Águeda and its festival of lights, the Alto Minho region, the Azores, Cascais or the Alqueva Dark Sky reserve. For its part, Peru is the South American country with the most sustainable destinations, a total of nine.
