The revival of benidorm keep hitting the movies. After It snows in Benidorm, of Isabel Coixet, the actor Second of the Rose makes his directorial debut in The cover (theatrical release July 23), a story that uses the city of Alicante not only as a stage.
Benidorm was the origin of the film. After a visit there, De la Rosa discovered the history and life of the covers, artists who live by singing in pubs and hotels in the English area imitating other artists. The cover is shot, above all, in the Rincon de Loix. Specifically, in the English area. On the beach and in the streets where pubs, bars and hotels are concentrated where these artists reign with drunk audiences. There are also scenes in the old town and in the port.
“It would not have been possible to tell this story without the city of Benidorm as the protagonist as well”, says Secun de la Rosa. “In a way, the city is like those guerrilla musicians, during the summer it fills up, but then, who remembers”.
