THE WILLS
2019 has also been the year in which the long-awaited sequel to the already famous 'The Handmaid's Tale' , the dystopian novel published in 1985 by the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood , recently brought to the small screen. 'The Testaments' takes place 15 years later, when the Republic of Gilead is particularly weak. The protagonists are three antagonistic women: the daughter of an important Commander, an inhabitant of Canada who demonstrates against the horrors of the regime and one located in a position of power.

The cultural journalist and author Jorge Carrión makes it very clear in his opinion article for the New York Times : The best books of 2019 have been written by women. One of his favorites is the latest from the Mexican Verónica Gerber Bicecci (who defines herself as an "artist who writes"). Edited by Almadi, 'La Compañía' is made up of two parts: a graphic novel that explores the arrival of a mining company in a Mexican town, followed by a photographic journey to San Felipe Nuevo Mercurio, Zacatecas (Mexico), where the effects of mining exploitation without any type of control are still present. WELCOME HOME
To the American writer Lucia Berlin her recognition of her work came late, specifically ten years after her death with 'Manual for cleaning women', the compilation of some of her works published posthumously. The last one that has seen the light is called 'Welcome home', made up of autobiographical texts in which she reflects on her own story.
