Girl with Balloon (2002)

Imagine a city where graffiti wasn't illegal, a city where everyone could draw whatever they wanted. Where every street was flooded with a million colors and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that feels like a party where everyone is invited, not just real estate agents and big business barons. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning on the wall, it's wet." Banksy.

The most famous and vindictive street artist in the world does not remain silent before anything: his ironic language and the controversial issues he addresses make us reflect on the reality in which we live.

The characters (monkeys, rats, policemen, children...) and the theme (politics, culture, ethics, war...) of Banksy are more than recognizable, as well as his technique: the stencil.

Now, the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid is hosting the BANKSY exhibition. The Street is a Canvas, an exhibition on the work of the British artist, whose identity remains unknown.

The December 3, 2020 This unprecedented journey through the Banksy universe is inaugurated. You can purchase your tickets here.

Love is the Air (2003)

Divided into different thematic areas, the 50 creations on display include a selection of unique works executed with different techniques: oil or acrylic on canvas, spray on canvas, limited edition serigraphs, stencils on metal or concrete, sculptures, installations, videos and photographs.

An immersive multimedia installation specially created for this exhibition will welcome the visitor, revealing clues about the mysterious artist, highlighting his most important pieces and framing his unusual career, not without controversy.

Among the most recognized works in the exhibition is the original serigraphy of the series Niña con globo, similar to the one recently destroyed by the artist himself in an unprecedented action at Sotheby's, the London auction house.

We can also see Love is in the Air, Monkey Queen, Keep it real or Bomb love.

No Ball Games (2009)

A GENIUS OR A THUG? AN ARTIST OR AN ENTREPRENEUR? A PROVOCATOR OR A REBEL?

"Banksy has become a phenomenon and is one of the most brilliant and important artists of our time. His work is a challenge to the system, a protest, an extremely well-built brand, a mystery, a disobedience to the law...”, says Alexander Nachkebiya, curator of the Exhibition.

And he continues: “We want every visitor to this exhibition to be able to figure out for themselves who Banksy really is: A genius or a hooligan? An artist or an entrepreneur? A provocateur or a rebel?

“This new exhibition aims to show the depth of Banksy's talent, the multiple layers and dimensions of it so that it is the visitors themselves who think and decide. His work, always current and very complete, delves into the soul of each one of us. I guess all of this makes him a genius for me,” Nachkebiya concludes.
