When The smell of recently baked bread creeps into your dreams, it is difficult to continue sleeping as if nothing had happened.
Little by little, each at their own pace, the guests of the four rooms of Brücke 49 parade through the so-called Breakfast Club –Breakfast is brought to the door for those who stay in the three apartments in the adjoining house– and taking a seat at the large communal table.
There, on a set of Danish porcelain, they find homemade jams, cured meats and alpine goat cheeses, red fruits collected from the forest and natural yogurt made especially for the hotel at the neighboring dairy.
All organic, all local and literally without intermediaries.
“Pius Walker beekeepers walk into our kitchen to deliver the honey practically with the bees still buzzing around it, and the eggs are from the chickens of Kaspar Berni, a farm at 1,700 meters of altitude” he proudly tells us Thomas Schacht, owner with his wife Ruth Kramer –responsible for the recipe for the delicious Bircher Müesli and granola– of this very stylish pension with a Nordic atmosphere.
Located next to the Valser Rhein river, on the “sunny shore” of Vals , and a few meters from the charming town square, Brücke 49 is the result of the restoration of three historic houses , the ideal base camp to discover the valley and its artisans, ski the vertiginous slope of the small station, rest and, of course, eat delicious food and make new friends.
