Sao Lourenco do Barrocal

Nothing has had to change to change everything in São Lourenço do Barrocal, where the new hospitality arrived with homework done: there is plenty of social distance thanks to the almost 800 hectares of the farm -which celebrates 200 years in the hands of the Uva family-, the solemn interior design of its suites and cottages –almost monastic and with the impeccable seal of Anahory Almeida– remains untouched, and gastronomic moments are almost always shared outdoors thanks to the sunny Alentejo sky.

A few weeks ago we went back to check it out and, after a night of deep sleep and waking up pushed by the song of the birds that flutter around here –there are more than 75 species–, we confirmed that the breakfast is still one of those that I wish they lasted all morning; lifetime.

Served as a continental and no longer buffet, it arrives at the table a basket of Alentejo rye and wheat bread, croissants with and without seeds, homemade cookies and regional pastries of the day.

Add to this butter, homemade jam, Monsaraz honey, fresh and dry goat cheeses and sausages from the area, in addition to seasonal fruit, avocado with lemon, natural juices, artisan yogurts and coffees, teas and chocolates.

Eggs in all their possibilities, sautéed vegetables, toasted –oh, the toasts–, the roasted tomato with vinaigrette, the porridge and the pancakes are still on the menu so that the matter goes on, as we said, without measure. And then walk. There is plenty of time.
