OBJETOdeDESEO, the first Gallery of Objects in Barcelona

Can you imagine a place only dedicated to objects ? Well, there is, and it's called ObjectofDesire .

Located now in the very center of Barcelona _(Carrer del Consell de Cent, 292) _, and located inside a wonderful house with unique architecture dating from 1867, we discover the space, that sells and is sold as cult objects.

After passing through a tiny but exquisite entrance and climbing ten steps, we reached the first floor. Jorge Subietas awaits us there, objectologist by profession Y creator of this specialized art shop-gallery in decorative objects in Spain.

The space is divided into three rooms: DESIREOBJECT (where they sell), DESIRE interior (where they project) and WISHgallery (where they exhibit and sell, of course). It is, ultimately, a “Cabinet of Contemporary Curiosities” , full of objects, only objects and nothing but objects.

True to the same philosophy since the first day they opened, OBJETOdeDESEO offers an eclectic mix of decorative pieces with weekly news, always made from noble materials: ceramic, porcelain, glass, wood and metal , which come from more than 30 different countries.

All the pieces they sell are contemporary; except for a few honorable exceptions more for their aesthetic appeal than for their value as antiquity, and they always belong to short series, made or finished by hand and unique and unrepeatable models.

“We offer a very personal selection in which we prioritize the surprise, the humour, the quality of the materials and the uniqueness of the pieces . Singular objects for plural people”, says Jorge.

The space in this room is pure, with white walls and some black to add depth and thus magnify the work behind each piece: “ here the objects are the protagonists and hence they are placed on bases, at the height they deserve, and only one of each for each one”, explains the creator of the store.

Next, in the central area, acting almost like a justice of the peace between the two art rooms, we find the studio: DESIRE interior.

This space is intended for the projects department of decoration and interior design . Here, the objectologist designs spaces with personality , fleeing from the ephemeral and the scenography and co-creating each corner with care and hand in hand with each client.

“Since Coordonné (wallcovering brand) sponsors us, we work exclusively on his wallpapers and especially on his murals. We also collaborate with communication agencies and events for temporary decorations. And we have worked with renowned professionals (decorators and interior designers of the level of Lázaro Rosa-Violán, Sandra Tarruella, Patricia Urquiola, Estrella Salietti...) to give the final touch to their spaces with our objects”, confesses Jorge.

Finally, to the right, we come across the art Gallery , which shows the complete work until the end of April 'Reticulated Body' by Roger Sanguino . Soon, this installation will disappear to make way for that of Sophie Aguilera in May, Alberto Twose in June (...) . Every three weeks, exhibitions are shown by independent artists who have found their new place in the world by exhibiting here at DESEOGallery.

“We act as a loudspeaker those artists who do not finish fitting in the art galleries , but whose works would be lost when exhibited in decoration stores”, Jorge clarifies.

The prices of the objects of desire that are exhibited both in the store and in the gallery range from €25 to a maximum of €900, thus avoiding the extra cost involved in selling a brand and reaffirming the idea of offering "art to decorate and not works of art". Voila!
