It will be located at the end of the Busselton City Pier
To give life to what will become the largest underwater observatory in Australia -with two kilometers in length-, the London architecture studio has had a budget of 30 million Australian dollars.
Bustleton Jetty, the pier in the city of Busselton -located two hours south of Perth-, has been the enclave chosen to host this ode to the marine universe.
While an abstract interpretation of a cetacean watches Geographe Bay, the bottom of the sea hides the space of the observatory and an underwater dining experience that will not leave any diner indifferent.
When can you visit? According to the Baca Architects team, the center intends to open its doors in December 2022 , starting the works in the middle of this year.
The great eye of the cetacean
The visitor will embrace nature from their arrival at the complex: the car may be parked in a park adorned with rain gardens . Once inside the AUDC, a trip to the fascinating observatory will win over every guest.
Passing through the art gallery and exhibition spaces on the way down to the observatory, the eye of the cetacean, a large partially submerged glass window , will require a stop to contemplate the beauty of the ocean.
"This is as authentic as it gets: while people are in the tank, the fish are looking in. With the addition of underwater restaurants, underwater sculptures, marine art and other elements, this project will enhance the experience of Bustleton Jetty, which is 155 years old" , says the president of Bustleton Jetty, BarryHouse.
In turn, Barry House believes that the creation of a new observatory in the city was necessary, since the current one only allows 44 people to enter each hour.
The opening is scheduled for 2022
