In front of this work, Drew explains that his passion for art was born from a very young age, but his education in it came separately. having houses in New York, Greenwich and the Hamptons he was lucky to have neighbors like the Brant family and the Mugrabi family, two of the world's biggest collectors and art dealers. He learned a lot from them and they gave him all kinds of advice. The most important one he remembers is this: "If you're going to invest, it's better to have one great piece by Basquiat or Warhol than ten of his drawings or lithographs."

The businessman followed his recommendations to the letter. His family was not dedicated to art, they had a paper recycling company in Philadelphia, which under his leadership, managed to invoice more than 1,000 million dollars a year before moving to Mallorca, when the company strategically associated with the Asian conglomerate, Konica Minolta. He worked in India, Brazil, Turkey and North America, with all the most relevant newspapers and magazines, and doing good business, little by little, he started his own art collection.

IT ALL STARTED WITH A WARHOL

The first painting he acquired was in 2006, one of Warhol's Campbell's soup cans that hung from his luxurious 400-square-meter penthouse in the Trump World Tower in New York, where he lived with his wife, the Czech top model. In 2016 they founded Liongate Capital, on which their other businesses depend: a mortgage broker that offers mortgages and financial intermediation for the acquisition of luxury houses and contemporary art in the Balearic Islands and in the south of Spain.

The opening of the first Gallery Red space in 2018 caused great expectation in Palma and many onlookers went to the gallery to take photos. “When we opened the store, we sold the first bag in 20 minutes. Obviously, the Mallorcan won”, he says with a knowing smile. “I thought: we have created something unique.”

The arrival of covid in 2020 was an opportunity for Drew, since when people closed their spaces, he acquired four new ones, expanding on the plaça, with the opening of Café RED, Soho Gallery Mallorca and Frame Shop by Gallery RED , from which they make the frames for works in his gallery and others in the same area. They have a close relationship between them, to such an extent that in the neighboring Pelaires Gallery, when they visit each other, they hug and call each other “brothers”.
