FLEMING'S JAMAICA
According to Matthew Parker in his book Goldeneye - Where Bond was born: Ian Fleming's Jamaica, the island that the London writer encountered was a perfect mix between the most classic British imperial values and the exotic and exciting. Duality reflected in the profile with which he conceived the original character of James Bond: "an extremely boring and uninteresting man who had things happen to him" as Fleming himself confessed in an interview for the New Yorker in 1962.
