The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2018 is decided between Cuenca and León

Cuenca or León: the chosen one will succeed Huelva

This title, awarded by the FEHR (Spanish Hospitality Federation) and the FEPET (Spanish Federation of Tourism Journalists and Writers), recognizes tourist destinations committed to promoting gastronomic tourism, traditional cuisine and local food products.

The verdict of the jury with the name of the city that will take over from Huelva, current Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, will be announced next October 17 at 1:00 p.m.

Highlighting the potential of both candidates, the president of Capital Gastronómica, Mariano Palacín, has valued “very positively Cuenca's decision to repeat the candidacy. This demonstrates his strong will to win the award and the enthusiasm of the hospitality industry."

He has also referred to León, "with a firm commitment to a city in northwestern Spain as the capital. Their social support is impressive and we appreciate that the project covers the entire province and their commitment to defending the gastro-food product of the land”.

The jury is made up of professionals from the world of tourism (Turespaña, FITUR, Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies, Spanish Confederation of Hotels, Institute of Spanish Tourist Quality, National Paradores), of the hospitality industry (FEHR, Taste Spain, Good Table Restaurants Association, Euro-Toques European Community of Cooks, Circle of Centennial Restaurants and Young Restaurateurs), of the comunication (tourist journalists from FEPET) and institutional representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture.
