Beach and the best climate in Europe: we travel to Torrox
Summering in the ** Axarquia of Malaga ** is a luxury. We are in the region that saw two days ago how the Junta de Andalucía gave the green light to the Protected origin of your avocado . We have come to earth with one of the fishing ports with the highest activity in Andalusia , the one of Cove of Velez , which **hides the place where Chanquete died ** and dazzles with the streets of one of the most beautiful towns in Spain: Frigiliana .
But we have come to the beach, and we have not wanted to leave the Axarquia. We have come to Torrox.
UP TO 9 KILOMETERS OF BEACHES

Torrox Costa has nothing more and nothing less than 9 kilometers of beaches , very frequented by those who flee from the stones and seek clean, calm waters with more sand. There are many options for a perfect beach day in Torrox.
If what you are looking for is not too much influx of public, Mazagarrobo and the Peñoncillo They are two quite extensive beaches that do not have the horizon blurred by a million buildings. If stones matter little to you and what you long for is a bit of tranquility in a cool cove, your beach is caloil , a small beach where it will cost you to park if you go by car but can boast of some beautiful sunsets . These are very present not only in restaurants but also in the stalls of the fabulous market that is set up every Monday in the Mediterranean avenue of Torrox Costa , a perfect opportunity to taste these delicacies of the land.
In Torrox they eat crumbs , as in almost all Andalusia, but they make them with fresh fish from the port of the Caleta de Velez, mainly sardines. Having the port of La Caleta so close makes it easy to find places to enjoy good clams a la marinera, some good espetao fish and fried anchovies. Can't miss the gazpacho and ajoblanco, fried calamari and arriera salad , a typical Torrox dish in which cod, orange and tomato declare war on the heat.
Eating well is possible in many places in Torrox. Among all the restaurants and beach bars we could recommend three:
Varadero Beach _(ctra. EL Peñoncillo, s/n) _ It represents everything that a beach bar must have: good skewers , rice dishes but not foreigners, grill for meat and fish, homemade desserts, cocktails and nautical service for the most splendid.
The Figon (Almedina, 5). It is one of the most famous in the town of Torrox and is usually quite crowded. It tends to mislead because there are many foreign tourists who come to the call of the flamenco music that they usually have on. It is a perfect place for those who prefer meat to fish , yes, accompanied by some salad with products from the Axarquia. But beware, the kitchen closes around 10pm, it is a place to have an early dinner.
Pepe Oro Beach Bar _(Disseminated Pago Carlaja, 1867) _ It is the traditional beach bar, the one that is neither the prettiest nor the most comfortable, but its fried fish and skewers will always make you come back. The calamari and the octopus are the best in this house. Well, that and if you fall off the chair you are in the sea.

BONUS TRACK FOR THE CURIOUS
Torrox has one of the few lighthouses open to the public and has become over the years an essential tourism in the town. It was built in 1864 and houses the Torrox Marine Museum.
Torrox has survived two earthquakes that occurred at the end of the 19th century and with a difference of just months between them.
Up to two times Torrox had to be conquered. The first time the city was taken in the year 1487, but fell the following year into the hands of the sultan of Granada, el Zagal, that he did not get along at all well with the famous Boabdil with whom he had a civil war. The Christian armies took little time to recover it.
Torrox Lighthouse
Another of the curiosities that you can find in Torrox are the remains of a Roman villa, that of Clavicum. You can see some hot springs and a water channeling system dating from the 2nd century AD. It was possibly a private dwelling and had many mosaics scattered throughout its rooms, some of which can be seen in the Malaga Archaeological Museum.
The defensive nature of Torrox can be seen in different constructions from the 15th century, such as the Calaceite tower and Güi beacon . Being located high up, the views from there are fantastic, perfect for photography lovers.
Torrox holds the title of Very noble and very loyal since 1503 by order of the Catholic Monarchs themselves. This distinction is granted by the crown to some privileged towns such as Chinchón or Cuenca.
A curious activity in Torrox can be found by visiting the Mint, an 18th century building that houses a very curious museum of miniatures.
