Since last September 24, diving in the waters of Les Catalans beach It has become one of the most attractive plans in Marseille.

It is in this location of the French city where the almost brand new Musée Subaquatique (MSM) , dedicated to art, marine biology and environmental protection.

A hundred meters from the shore and five meters under the water hide the 10 sculptures -each one designed by an artist- that form the first installation of the underwater museum, which has become the most groundbreaking cultural proposal in the city.

The pieces, which have been carefully placed by the submarine engineering company Seven Seas , are the work of the following artists: Christophe Charbonnell (Poseidon), herrel (coexistence), Evelyne Galinsky (Les Nereides), Mathias Souverbie (Fish of Marseille), David Galbiati (La Graine et la Mer), Daniel Zanca (L'Oursin), Michel Audiar (L'ours polaire), Benoît de Souza (Les Singes de Mer), Marc Small (Selene) and Thierry Trives (Resilience).

Each of the creators of these wonderful underwater sculptures had a clear (and shared) goal: raise awareness among the population about the urgent protection of the environment and, especially, the Mediterranean underwater ecosystem.

And the fact is that the museum was born with the aim of sharing and transmitting environmental knowledge, as well as being conceived as a lever that would activate curiosity about the universe, both artistic and water sports and practices such as diving.

Apart from celebrating environmental awareness workshops, The museum will have a large activity program throughout the year, among which the organization of series of conferences and temporary exhibitions that delve into the different themes that will arise in the artistic institution.

While other temples of art consider new ways of interacting with the viewer -see virtual tours-, the Musée Subaquatique de Marseille has broken with the barriers of the conventional and offers total immersion.

The experience is not only fascinating on an artistic and didactic level , but also the relationship that is created between the underwater environment and people diving in to delight your retinas with the perfection of the sculptures is totally inspiring.
