Cycling through Bosnia

Two thousand kilometers, eight countries and thousands of adventures is what the ** TransDinarica ** offers, a trail for intrepid cyclists in one of the wildest regions of Europe.

“At the moment, the trail connects **Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia** but soon it will also connect **Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Macedonia”**, says Jan Klavora of the Ljubljana Visit Good Place agency and partner Slovenian from Tans Dinárica, to Traveler.es

Slovenia

The entire route will connect eight countries in Europe!

A SEA AND MOUNTAIN ON TWO WHEELS

a route of long distance mountain biking through the Dinaric mountains of Slovenia, Croatia and the Western Balkans.

The adventure begins climbing the mountains of the Julian Alps (Slovenia) to then descend through the Soča river valley admiring its emerald waters.

After taking a dip in the Adriatic we will cross the forests of the Risnjak National Park (Croatia) and we will jump to the Velebit mountain range then go down to the coast.

The next stage will take us to Bosnia, where we will depart from Lake Blidinje, wedged between the Cvrsnica and Vran mountain ranges, on an up-and-down route whose goal will be Sarajevo, the capital of the country.

A GROUP OF FRIENDS IN LOVE WITH THE BIKE

The project was devised by a group of mountain bike enthusiasts (mountain bike) from Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina that they met along the way.

They all have their own outdoor adventure companies and they wanted to share with the rest of the world the wonders that their countries hide, offering unique experiences both on and off the bike.

TO INFINITY AND BEYOND

"The backbone of Slovenia has 380 km, Croatia 362 and Bosnia 390. But that is the main path, there is more”, explains Jan to Traveler.es

What is intended in the coming years is to develop the existing tours and expand the trail through new countries: “It is important that each stage has more varieties, since in the future we would like to approach all types of cyclists, from mountain biking to cyclists looking for more relaxed tours” continues Jan.

“The enlargement will be a continuous process, since you can always improve the stages. It is such a large and diverse area that you can always find new possibilities”, says Jan.

For now, bike and outdoor lovers can opt for three programs: Trans Slovenia, Trans Croatia and Trans Bosnia. Or for all of them!

TRANS SLOVENIA: MOUNTAIN, WINE AND SEA

The Trans Slovenia program connects three countries –Slovenia, Italy and Austria– in seven days. On the way, you will pass through places where remnants of World War I remain, you will discover the underground caves of the Karst region and the Lipizzaner horses.

The landscapes? Simply from another world: from the Julian Alps to the Soča River via the Brda wine region all the way to the Adriatic coast.

The best time to tour the Slovenian Alps is from april to october but for example, the part that passes along the Croatian coast can be done throughout the year! Jan points out.

TRANS CROATIA: FORESTS, RIVERS AND MOUNTAINS

The tour of Croatia begins in the Risnjak National Park and then pedals through the Gorski Kotar area and the north Adriatic coast.

The fourth day is dedicated to one of the biggest challenges of the Croatian part of the trail: climb the mighty mountain of Velebit, the heart of the Dinaric mountain range in Croatia.

We will also explore the Lika region, known for its fertile lands full of forests, rivers and wildlife.

The final stretch of the road will take us around the river Zrmanja and lake Vransko to finish in the coastal town of Biograd na Moru, the old medieval capital of the Kingdom of Croatia.
