Movieland: The brainchild of film critic David Honnorat

It may sound crazy, putting all your favorite movies on a map? And how many would it be: a hundred, two hundred, three hundred… maybe a thousand? “I've been thinking about this for a long time, actually, since 2009 when I first created an imaginary subway map featuring IMDb.com's Top 250 Movies on The Greatest Movies of All Time. I was a bit frustrated that I didn't choose the films and thought I could submit many more. But I didn't have the time or the motivation to work on the project until a few months ago, ”he explains to Traveler.es the Parisian film critic and designer David Honorat.

Now he has verified that the map of him (you can consult his enlarged version), which began with a request of 5,000 euros on Kickstarter for those who wanted his poster version (the campaign has a deadline of November 10), already exceeds 56,000 euros . “Obviously I wasn't expecting that at all! I was worried that maybe no one would want it.” At the moment, there are still some available in their printed version of 91x61 centimeters for 30 euros.

To develop his project, Honnorat studied in depth maps of roads, cities and countries. "Wanted to it was clean and easy to read , but also look like a real one, even if it's not geographically correct,” he clarifies.

A meticulous work, which includes 1800 films, in which he has poured his passion for the seventh art and which he tries to transmit. “ Making the map helped me explore my passion for film and I hope it will encourage other people to do so. ”.

“I was careful in choosing the names of the different areas. I wanted these names to be meaningful and sound good. I like how the Strait of Reality separates the Documentary Land and the region with the World War Park and the True Story hills,” explains the author.

We want to know his favorite travel movies: “ The Man from Rio (1964) by Philippe de Broca with Jean-Paul Belmondo It is a great travel and adventure film. He inspired Spielberg to create Indiana Jones. I'm also a big fan of Two for the Road (1967) by Stanley Donen, it's a travel movie that tells the story of a married couple over time in a non-linear way, it's very beautiful and impressive. I would also recommend Lost in Translation, Thelma and Louise, A True Story, Easy Rider...”.

When it comes to choosing his favorite movie theater, David Honnorat doesn't even blink. "I love the Panorama Max Linder . There is only one 18 meter screen but it is a beautiful movie theater with 3 levels. I love to sit downstairs and watch great movies. The best cinema in the world if you ask me ”.
