In the cinema or in the collective imagination, it was projected at cities of the future with big skyscrapers, many luminous panels, flying taxis and hardly any space for a tree… It is possible that Tokyo is close to that type of city, but the truth is that in 2050 cities should not be like this if they want to survive climate change.

In most futuristic projects that we are seeing in recent years (many of them built in Denmark, the green country par excellence) cities are greener and with sustainable structures , whose buildings are built using materials such as wood, which generate less impact on the environment.

An example, which we talked about a few months ago, is Oceanix City , the floating city that the UN intends to create in the sea . And another more recent one is the project carried out by the firm Stefano Boeri Architetti , for the Karim's Group, which has created what would be the first City Forest Smart of Mexico.

This city would occupy an area of 557 hectares and would have the capacity to house some 130,000 inhabitants. Almost nothing!

His main goal would be return to nature a large area of land on which a large shopping center should have been built l, since it is close to the most touristic center of the country, Cancun.

A smart and self-sufficient city.

This green city would have about 400 hectares of vegetable surfaces Y 7,500,000 plants belonging to 400 species chosen by Laura Gatti, botanist and landscape architect.

Of these plants, 260 thousand would be trees (they calculate that about 2.3 trees per inhabitant) and the rest shrubs. But the most important thing of all is that the City Forest Smart would absorb 116,000 tons of carbon dioxide and would store about 5,800 tons of CO2 per year.

Like any city would be prepared to locate university centers, official buildings, laboratories and companies Yes, sustainable. "Inside it, research and development centers will be created to welcome students and researchers not only from Mexican universities, but also from the most prestigious schools in the world," Stefano Boeri points out.

City Smart is designed to be self-sufficient , with solar panels to store energy and a water channel connected to an underground plant in the sea that would allow the city to be supplied sustainably and develop a circular economy in terms of water use, a key element of the project.

And what about mobility? Mobility in Chain proposes a structured transport system that establishes that both residents and visitors leave all combustion vehicles outside the city and that internal mobility is exclusively with electric and semi-automatic means.

Also, Smart Forest City - Cancun It would be a pioneering complex where research would be developed that would address some of the main problems of today's society, such as bio-healthcare, astrophysics and planetary science, coral reef restoration, precision agriculture and regenerative technology; the operation of a smart city , and the mobility and robotics.

At the moment, the architecture studio is waiting for approval to carry it out.
