Main hall of the House-Museum of Sorolla
The residence and workshop in Madrid by the Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla, houses some of his most representative works such as 'The pink robe', 'Walk by the sea' and 'The horse's bath' . This residence was built between 1910 and 1911 and Sorolla tried to separate his workshop from the rest of the house, chaining three studies which he accessed from the garden. The rest of the house, made up of a living room, a dining room and a small sitting room on the first floor and four bedrooms on the second, maintains the original furniture as well as serving as a Exhibition halls for the artist's works.
The museum was created in 1925 by order of Sorolla's widow, Clotilde Garcia del Castillo , who donated her goods to the Spanish State, founding this Museum. With his death a year before the inauguration, the son of the married couple, Joaquín Sorolla García, became the first director of the Museum in 1932. Upon his death, the Museum's funds became the property of the Sorolla Museum Foundation and it currently depends of Culture Ministry.
