Surfing in the Moroccan desert

A SEA OF SENSATIONS

I recently started and to be a good surfer it takes years. However, from the first moment I was captivated by this new passion that represents a natural and wild lifestyle. Wait inside the water, surrounded by cliffs, virgin beaches and sunsets that leave you speechless: all that is also surfing. It is such a strong connection with nature that once you try it, nothing is the same, it changes your way of thinking, your preferences, your connection with the environment.

Morocco is an evocative of senses and sensations

T-shirts, sweatshirts and some pants. All day barefoot feel the hot sand on the skin , the sun as it charges you with energy, the taste of salt water, fighting against the force of the sea and then reaching the magic moment, when your wave comes, you climb and slide on it. I assure you that it is one of the best sensations that I have known so far.

ANZA IN WHITE AND BLUE

But not everything that is surfing ends in the water, surfing is linked to traveling, meeting people and new cultures . It is falling in love with people and places. It's feeling like all that is penetrating inside you. Suddenly you realize that you have changed, your way of seeing things, your priorities. You feel how little is needed to live and, above all and more importantly, how little is needed to be happy. At that moment you realize that surfing begins to be your lifestyle.

Morocco paradise for surfers

Morocco, paradise for surfers

One of my favorite places to escape is anza , to a small fishing village in Morocco. Sandy streets, small houses all painted white and deep blue, the smell of the sea... It is a place where people from all over the world meet, with the same goal, surfing.

THE SEA SPELL

my preferred accommodation is Blue Waves Surf House a house located in front of the beach with the best waves in the area, along with Killer Point and Dragula.

Killer Point

Killer Point

A Moroccan decoration is mixed together with the Mediterranean where white and blue and ethnic prints predominate. All the windows face the sea, there are no streets, no noise, except the sea…

There you have it all, place to sleep, surf instructors if you need it, material rental. Even, if you want, you can also go on excursions in the area, explore new beaches... They show you the real Morocco, from which you come back enchanted.

The school is great and the people are very friendly, as soon as you arrive you feel at home. You can go with friends or just alone, the second you are there you will have company, what's more, I even recommend living that experience, because it will be one of the best you can have.

SLOWLIFE

Just to tell you that here it is more than possible to walk along the beach every morning, with your eyes half open, barefoot and still wearing your pajamas, surrounded by camels. Or watch the sunsets in your magnificent terrace while you drink a delicious tea.

The women of the area are warm, hospitable and cook really well, like tagine, couscous among other delicacies. All typical dishes and home cooking.

The area is for fishermen, so if you go, do not hesitate to spend a day in the Imsouane beach , give you a good surfing session, and then try all kinds of grilled fish in front of the sea, it's really good, yes, you have to eat with your hands!

End the day in the great dunes of Tamri, area with huge mountains of sand that end in high cliffs, where you can see impressive sunsets in the sea... More than recommended! Or if you have more time, Do not miss the opportunity to make a trip to the Sahara desert.

Zagora

Zagora

Do not miss the opportunity to spend a day in Paradise Valley , a tropical place that contrasts with the rest of the areas, lakes, towering palm trees... surrounded by high mountains.

If you want to disconnect a bit from the beach and see life in the city, the best place to mix with the people of the area is to visit the souks. I recommend two that are close to Blue Waves, the Zouk of Agadir, a little more frequented by tourists, or the Zouk of Inezgane much more local. To end this story a confidence: once you know this paradise you come back again and again because it catches you and makes you fall in love.
