Tancheon Valley in Seoul It is located between the old Olympic Stadium, in the jamsil district , and the commercial district of gangnam , one of the fastest growing centers in the city. But its coast, like the entire city, is currently immersed in a tragic contamination atmospheric . This 2019 is being one of its most dramatic years.
So Seoul needs drastic changes for a greener future.
The Tancheon River will be essential in the new redesign of the valley, which will be carried out by the company MVRDV , which has been the undisputed winner in the concession of this public project that aims to clean up the coast, by land, sea and air.
The Weaves will completely transform around a kilometer length of the Tancheon River , as well as a significant stretch of coastline along the han river . Its main concept is to create a new landscape, with more access for pedestrians, natural ecosystems and a public program to carry out activities.

A green space for the population.
The objective of the project is to create a large ecosystem, designed from trails, greenways and cyclists, platforms for events, etc., so that the population can enjoy more green spaces, traffic-free and pollution-free.
To carry it out the first step in this plan will be return the river to a more natural state , and changing it to a meandering stream. The design will soften its banks with native vegetation , including aquatic plants, as well as purification islands and streams that contribute to a healthy coastline and ecosystem.
The idea is to create a three-dimensional public park , whose neuralgic point will start from a square from where different paths are born, or on whose hills there are cafeterias and even an amphitheater. The different paths will be the link point to cross the river and carts and, ultimately, will allow the creation of a large pedestrian route along the coast.
The objective is to clean up the coast of Seoul.
"Seoul is taking amazing steps to transform gray and outdated infrastructure into living green and social spaces," says Winy Maas, founding partner of MVRDV.
"The Jamsil district is known for its history of silk production and the design is reminiscent of the same silk threads tangled together. It is landscape poetry."
Without a doubt, one of the most applauded parts of The Weaves it is the pedestrian bridge that connects the Gangnam district with the Olympic Park . A set of paths rise up from the river to form a junction incorporating a viewing platform.
It is expected that construction begins in 2021, with completion expected in 2024.
One of its main virtues are its bridges and roads.
