A very original project by FXCollaborative and ESI Design
Just when Miss Liberty celebrates his 132 years (and very well carried out), this October 28, the works of the new space dedicated to the famous monument reach their final phase . We advance all the details of the future museum.
WHERE AND WHEN CAN YOU VISIT?
The museum is located in Liberty Island, the same island where the statue stands, just a few meters behind him. Right now it's possible view the structure from the outside, but to set foot inside you will have to wait until May 2019 when it is scheduled to open its doors. The best is that you will not have to pay more To visit him. Your ticket will be included in the same ferry ticket that allows you to see the statue and the museum of immigration, in Ellis Island.
WHO IS BEHIND THE PROJECT?
The one in charge of the design of the museum is the firm of architects FXCollaborative , responsible for several of the skyscraper surrounding Times Square. The new space covers more than 2400 square meters and is intended as an extension of the same park where the statue stands
An open design to the landscape
The museum will tour miss liberty legacy from an exhibition created by the company ESI Design , specialist in interior transformation of shops and offices. But the director of this harmonic orchestra is The Satue of Liberty - Ellis Island Foundation , a non-profit organization created in 1982 to raise funds and protect history of the monument.
HOW IS THE EXHIBITION SET UP?
The museum raises a journey through the history of the statue from a journey through three spaces: Immersive Theater, Engagement Gallery and finally, InspirationGallery. The welcome will give us a original mural inspired by another of the great symbols of the United States, its flag.
WHAT IS THE IMMERSIVE THEATER, OR IMMERSION CINEMA?
It is a media experience of about ten minutes that will surround the visitors and immerse them in the beginnings of the creation of the statue.
The screening starts with views of the 1870s New York Harbor , years before its installation, and will not be suitable for sensitive eyes . A vertigo virtual flight It will cover every corner of the monument, from top to bottom, and from outside to inside. It will be a good opportunity to discover how has it changed the world around you.
The old torch, the highlight of the visit
WHAT IS THE ENGAGEMENT GALLERY ABOUT?
In this room, curved walls who remember the folds of the monument, visitors will be able to explore in depth the workshop where Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi built the Statue of Liberty. The tour follows the entire process, step by step, from the first plaster model until copper sheets that form the face and body of the monument.
It will also highlight the work of Gustave Eiffel , the father of the famous Paris tower that bears his surname, who created the steel mesh that holds the different plates of the statue.
There will be four sections called: Imagining Liberty, Building Liberty, Wrapping up Liberty and Reimagining Liberty. Among the most interesting objects are original drawings, advertisements published to raise money for its construction and visitors letters fascinated by the monument.
WHAT IS THAT OF THE INSPIRATION GALLERY, OR INSPIRATION GALLERY?
It will be a interactive space where visitors can leave their mark. There will be a digital mural called Becoming Liberty made with the selfies of visitors.
The final fireworks of the exhibition is also in this room. Protected by a crystal Cube, will display the original torch that held the statue for nearly 100 years and was replaced in 1986 for the current one. The farewell to the museum will be sensational New York skyline views . What more could you want?

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING THE STATUE?
Tickets to visit Liberty Island can be buy physically, at the lockers located inside Clinton Castle , an old city defense fort located in Battery Park.
To save you queues, you can book them online and indicate the day and time that you will visit the place. The ticket you print at home is worth it for get on the ferry But beware if you are interested in going up to the crown . the tickets they fly and they must be requested with at least three months in advance.
