Sustainability at the click of a button

Living with eco awareness is more than desirable, but quite complicated: Where buy in bulk ? what to do to avoid plastics of the containers? How generate less waste s at home…? The questions one asks oneself when deciding to undertake the path of sustainability there are many, and they know that well Martí Morató and Magda Cebrián.

They both proposed a year ago shopping without generating waste, and that's where the difficulties began: "We saw that it was feasible, but that outside our neighborhood, Gràcia, it was very difficult for us to find products without packaging," they explained in an interview. His answer to that problem? Create the app Go Zero Waste .

“It is an app that makes it easier for you to make purchases without plastic, and helps you consume in a more sustainable way,” Cebrián tells Traveler.es. “It offers a store locator for bulk and plastic-free products, so that when you go shopping, it is easier for you to find everything you need from your shopping list. You can browse stores around you or search by product categories,” she explains.

It is, therefore, a kind of Google Maps of sustainable goods and vendors, which today offers 250 stores of all kinds in 20 different cities -and that grows with the help of the community, which can suggest new establishments-. In addition, it offers you practical information about the businesses it lists, such as if they offer a discount for bringing your own containers.

Likewise, according to Cebrián, the app has a second functionality: to show you a series of challenges to help you build more sustainable consumption habits, that you can fulfill at your own pace. "As you take on these challenges, you solidify your habits, and a meter marks the waste saved with your actions," she says.

The objective is to facilitate the path of those who embark on plastic-free consumption, as well as promote small businesses and local products. In fact, Go Zero Waste is also proposed help businesses find greener ways to operate.

“Our business model is focused on creating solutions so that companies adapt their packaging to a returnable model and abandon single-use plastic. The idea is to go back to the milkman model, but with solutions adapted to each type of company and its needs”, says the expert. For this reason, her team, made up of design, technology development, strategy and marketing professionals, is specialized in the circular economy applied to the industrial sector, an area that in the coming years will be key for the planet.
