Image that has earned photographer O'Day the title of Grand Winner
Happiness made into an image must be a lot like putting together **the 1,895 photographs that were submitted to the second edition of the International Wedding Photographer of the Year (IWPOTY) Awards** and passing them one by one so that so much emotion spreads to us.
They took care of that the six members of a jury responsible for evaluating the work of 512 photographers (amateurs and professionals) from 61 different countries.
Distributed in 11 categories (Photojournalism, Solo Portrait, Black & White, From Above, Wedding Party, Dance Floor & Party, Epic Destination, Wedding Album, Couple Portrait, Engagement / Pre/Post Wedding Day, Analog Video/Photo) , the jury awarded a score to each photograph.
The three best rated in each category, with the exception of Wedding Album, went on to a final round in which 30 images competed in a new vote for the title of International Wedding Photographer of the Year.
In this edition, the grandwinner , title given to the winner of the last round, has been Dan O'Day , professional photographer based in Australia specializing in wedding and fine art photography. The winner presented the image of him in the Portrait of couples category.
The IWPOTY runner-up was Jason Tey for the image he presented in the category Engagement / day before or after the wedding in which a couple appears under a sky in which the milky way is perfectly drawn.
“This is one of those images that took an hour to plan and shoot, but was years in the making. We've been out shooting the stars for five years, working on how to perfect the art of capturing the universe and putting our partners in it. Sometimes you're out in the cold wondering if it's worth the effort, but this recognition is a wonderful way to close out 2018," explains Jason Tey in the words of the IWPOTY press release.
