Oysters, Pedrín, what a bar!

Very few people go around saying “Oysters, Pedrín!”, but although we do not say it, we know that it is an exclamation of surprise. A phrase born from the comics of Roberto Alcazar y Pedrin in the 40s, a nice expression to show that what we see is something unexpected. And the name could not be more appropriate for this place opened a few months ago in the Chamberí neighborhood in Madrid, first franchise of the original born in Valencia in 2015.

We feel surprise when we see a traditional bar that also wants to be a neighborhood seafood restaurant. “ Pedrin oysters It is a bar that takes care of every detail, but with the flavor of the usual bars, with products from the sea, specializing in oysters. Where you can go at any time of the day, alone or accompanied. to have an aperitif, a glass of cava or a vermouth, for lunch or dinner”, explains Antonio González, one of the founders.

They are the queens here.

Occupying the place where until last year there was an Italian tavern, Ostras Pedrín has used the original huge u-bar to make it the soul of the place. Around it, oysters are ordered, queens, of course, but also quality preserves, some sea urchins or, simply, some delicious gildas.

“We offer a careful selection of high-quality gastronomy. We mainly focus on oysters —our star product—, although all our products receive the same care and attention”, continues Antonio. They give as much importance to the oyster as to the drink that goes with it, be it champagne, wine or a well-drunk beer.

The oysters are brought from their own hatcheries, the best way to ensure quality. "We have hatcheries in Asturias, Valencia and the Ebro Delta, this allows us to control the entire process, from the selection of the seeds to the moment of consumption”, says Salva Bares, the other co-founder. "With this we manage to eliminate all intermediaries and give all quality guarantees."

We are finally becoming fond of hedgehogs in Madrid.

Bars went to the first Ostras Pedrín came to mind “20 or 25 years ago”. “Walking through the historic center of Valencia, when I was returning home I saw a small arch-shaped door, behind it, some old steps were lost in the darkness. An irremediable attraction to that little door took hold of me, I crossed the arch and after going down the steps I found myself inside a small place, with simple stone and brick walls, it was charming! ”, He recounts. His mind and imagination traveled far and he saw it clearly: “ I saw a small bar like the ones from before with a different gastronomic offer, quality products and flavors of yesteryear. The oysters were the star product and its name was Oysters Pedrín!”. That place could not be – it was too small – but the idea did not abandon him and in 2015 they made it a reality in Valencia, transforming it into an immediate success that they now bring to Madrid.

Everything revolves around this great bar.

Pedrin oysters open all day, It's an aperitif place, of course; but also gourmet lunch and dinner, a beer in the afternoon. And to give yourself a very affordable whim. Whims like eating some Galician hedgehogs, that product that we are finally seeing more frequently in Madrid, served "raw, in its own shell, accompanied by a lemon wedge." “For us it does not require further intervention. It is already known, the better the product, the less it has to be elaborated”.
