Karolina Rossina opened the ban on a new format of guides in which the countryside and the city go hand in hand, and in which photography, design and the desire to leave urban settings behind come together. From her publisher, The Gentle Temper, and together with Dr. En, she publishes very special series like the one that is still a bestseller in berlin Take Me to the Lakes. The purpose of it is help city dwellers rediscover the beauty of regional travel.
Tell us more about what you do and publish.
The Gentle Temper is an independent publisher based in berlin who produces books about travel, culture and design. Our publications focus on regional and sustainable travel. We seek to respond to the primordial human need to return to the field. In this age of information overload, we create niche posts that promote slowdown . We have been five years since and we have already published 14 guides. The Take Me To The Lakes series sold over 50,000 copies but we have also included Lake Editions and Weekender Editions for Munich Y hamburg as well as Lake Editions for Leipzig, the black forest, Cologne Y Dusseldorf.
What are your new favorite addresses in Berlin?
Lately, as meditation and mindfulness are vital to me, I am excited about the upcoming opening of OHIA . East exclusive meditation studio is located on Rosenthaler Platz, in mitte. As for restaurants, to enjoy the flavors of the Italian region of Apulia, I recommend cool, which has opened in Brunnenstraße, in mitte. It is a specialized store run by the owners of the milan bar, an institution of appetizers in the neighborhood. Also, I love the work of Brandlhuber Y Sam Chermayeff, architecture and design studios, respectively, that have given life to the place. And whether you're a resident or just passing through, I recommend subscribing to the weekly newsletter. CeeCee, with recommendations for Berlin and its surroundings. Among the most recent gastronomic openings are julius, lock 6, Remy Y Otto.

Take Me to the Lakes is a guide focused on lakes. Where do you usually relax?
There are more than 3,000 lakes around Berlin alone, but to the north, the regions of schorfheide Y Uckermark they are impressive for their forests and for the abundance of crystal clear lakes. The Uckermark has even made a name for itself. It is Like the Hamptons of Berlin. In Gerswalde, a town in the Uckermark the restaurant is famous GAIA, in the Grosser Garten. Other nearby and favorite lakes are Sterhagener Haus; Haus am Pinnower See; Gut Fergitz and Vorwerk Krewitz . And if you like canoeing, camping and glamping, Freihafen Mildenberg. The Berlin-Copenhagen cycle path passes this old brick factory, making it an easy bike ride from Berlin. This area is so lush and abundant in waterways that the owner of Freihafen Mildenberg named it the Amazon of the Havel. In Hamburg, the region of Darß (Fischland-Darß-Zingst) it is captivating. Y New Haus it is a charming accommodation where the nearest beach is a stone's throw away. One of the most beautiful beaches is Weststrand on the Baltic Sea, hidden in the heart of a nature reserve. In the North Sea, we recommend Haus-Steuermann, a house with a thatched roof in the impressive Fohr Island. And in the Black forest, walk through the Wutachschlucht and Sankenbachsee gorges. Or book a stay at Langenachhof, a traditional-style lodge, base of operations to explore the waterfalls of Triberg, the blindensee nature reserve or the source of the river Danube. Another of our favorites in the area is the modern The chalet, a perfect house to tour the region for several days.
Have you discovered something new in and around the lakes?
INSL Kyritz, in a small island in Untersee, near Kyritz. To get there you have to take a ferry. Here you come to spend the whole day, relaxed, having a drink and browsing around. It is one of my main destinations to disconnect. Also the beer garden James Beergarten near gorinsee, and the restaurant Landleben in Sacrow See or the most exclusive Alte Uberfahrt on the Werder Island near Potsdam. From here you can enjoy the impressive views of the lake and the surrounding forest. And another discovery is Gut Klostermühle, A wonderful Ayurvedic spa and hotel on the shores of Madlitzersee.
