The Fiestas del Almendro en Flor will take place the first weekend of February
Every year the town of Tejeda celebrates the Almond Blossom Festival, that together with the Carnival is one of the celebrations oldest in the Canary Islands. Here you wait eagerly every February, these festivities in honor of one of the most important specialties in the area.
This tradition began with a group of young Tejedenses in the year 1970 , and since then, it has been increasingly welcomed by the people of the island and by the curious who come to enjoy the occasion.
Tejeda, located in Las Palmas, is the only Canarian town that belongs to the ** Most Beautiful Towns in Spain Association.**
The uniqueness of these parties served him to take in 2014 the award for Festivals of Regional Tourist Interest. The next objective of the Tejeda city council is to turn it into ** Festivals of National Tourist Interest ,** since it is a tribute to the product that has historically sustained the economy of the town.
The wonderful field of Tejeda
Nothing less than him 75% of the almond trees registered in the Canary Islands are found in Tejeda, which comes to be in figures about 150,000. From this tree, products such as marzipan, bienmesabe or bitter almond oil, nationally recognized.

On Friday, February 1, the festivities will begin with the 3rd Fiesta del Almendro School Gala and the VI Francis Suárez Rodríguez Costumbrista Theater Contest.

The day on Saturday, February 2 (named Tourist Day) will begin on the main street of Tejeda, where the Craft Fair will take place.
There will also be popular games and exhibition of indigenous sports –such as Canarian wrestling and shepherd's jump–. At 8:30 p.m. the proclamation will be read at the Alfredo Kraus Cultural Center, after which the Silver Almond Tree will be awarded.
On Sunday, February 3, the town of Tejeda will continue to show off Canarian culture and tradition with artisans, folkloric groups, typical products of the area and various performances such as that of the Beletén group.
