The Golden Girls Cookbook

do you remember? Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sofia ? Of those four women who shared a house in Miami during the 80s and who solved all their problems in the kitchen? Well, 35 years after its premiere…. ¡ your recipe book is published! The Golden Girls Cookbook.

Among the star dishes, the cheesecake (Keep reading because at the end we explain how to prepare it). And it is that according to they say, throughout their 7 seasons they ate more than 100 cheesecakes : an essential when it comes to resolving any type of conflict. And that, according to the producers of the series Barry Fanaro and Mort Nathan, to Bea Arthur (who played Dorothy), she didn't like this dessert at all.

Now, The Golden Girls Cookbook , edited by Disney Publishing Worldwide , pick up the recipe up to 3 varieties of cheesecake from the series , plus some St Olaf staples that Rose was always talking about, Sophia classics like lasagna, zabaglione or a rum cake , and also Dorothy and Blanche's favorite dishes.

The person in charge of preparing all this recipe book has been Chris Styler, a chef and television producer who is an unconditional fan of the series. "I've lost count of the times I've seen it - he explains to Traveler.es - At home we keep the DVD player only because we have all 7 seasons in this format . We have seen it many times from beginning to end. I've seen the episode where Rose meets Dr. Jonathan Neuman more than 30 times. And sometimes I randomly pick a DVD and put in a random chapter. They're all great so there's no risk of going wrong”.

between the pages of The Golden Girls Cookbook we found the Sophia's Fra Diavolo mussels , the Bourbon Glazed Carrots from the Blanche chapter , a lemon herb chicken that can be cooked in up to 4 different ways in Dorothy's section, and in Rose's case another chicken, but this one in the form of a delicious cake . Speaking of chicken, do you remember the chapter where they got engaged to prepare 300 for the catering of a wedding?

Styler also has his preferences when it comes to choosing the dishes that appear in the series, although he admits that it is difficult. “ I really like a snack called Knish , also the Sofia's Baked Lasagna , and some simpler ones from Rose”. He includes them all. But it has not been an easy task. "In fact, the only person we know who actually cooks is Sophia , so the chapter dedicated to her was easier. In the case of Rose, the protagonist refers to some dishes that we would never really want to cook. She speaks, for example, of a cake stuffed with herring that doesn't sound too good, and that I decided to adapt to turn it into something delicious, with layers of potatoes, onion, herring and puff pastry . I had to make up to 5 or 6 attempts, but I managed it”. In the case of Blanche and Dorothy they never got to cook in the series, and here Styler had to think about the dishes they would have cooked, based on his comments and references. In the end, he gets a volume of more than 90 recipes that includes all kinds of appetizers, mains and desserts , phrases and images from the series and photos by Andrew Scrivani for the recipes.

THE CHEESE CAKE OF 'THE GOLDEN GIRLS'

But back to the cheesecake . Because in The Golden Girls Cookbook we found up to 3 different recipes. “My favorite – Chris Styler tells us – is the one with the New York style mini cheesecake . They are simple and creamy, with a citrus note thanks to the orange and lemon peel. The chocolate and cheese cake is also amazing . In fact, it is the favorite of most of my friends and family. And for a different experience, you can try the cherry cheesecake ice cream – which are as good as their name!”

For the moment, to make a mouthful, we leave you with the one that devastates family and friends.
