The new Bogota

Bogota Skyline

Bogotá is not as impassable as you imagine...

When speaking of a new Bogotá, it is impossible not to refer to the areas in full development such as the so-called T-zone . Although its name seems more like an airport terminal, it is one of the parts of the city that show its most dynamic face in gastronomy, design stores and cultural spaces.

These streets are part of the restructuring of the city. The priority is that they become pedestrian to favor the walk and the location of terraces open to the outside.

In this area we can find restaurants like WOK, with a clear conscience in favor of the environment and ecology. This restaurant has become a center for disseminating all kinds of ideas whose objective is the preservation of the Earth. They call it Mundo WOK, and its main motto is “REUSE, RECYCLE, REDUCE”. They throw messages on the individual tablecloths of each diner , either to raise awareness about saving water and paper or to suggest the use of cloth bags instead of plastic ones. The menu is simple and evolves throughout the year, always based on the wok, the Asian frying pan.

The Plaza de Andrés is the new creation of Andrés Jaramillo, owner of the best-known restaurant in Colombia, Andrés Carne de Res, located in Chía. His resounding success is based on a simple and tasty cuisine -dishes based on meat and seasonal products -, and in the interior design of its spaces, where it uses native materials from Colombian traditions.

In La Plaza they offer delicacies fresh from the market , fresh products that are cooked at the moment, in full view of everyone. The spaces are decorated with handicrafts, old crockery, bird cages that function as lamps, scales, baskets, popular pieces that, removed from their environment and mounted as an installation, acquire the appearance of works of art.

Olga Piedrahita's store is located in a rationalist building, and the simplicity of the geometric lines of its architecture contrasts with the designer's colorful creations that can be glimpsed in the shop windows. The avant-garde brand is permanently renewed with unconventional designs. In its space it is common to see exhibitions of jewelry, shoes and other accessories, also from other designers. Olga Piedrahita is known for her experimentation and for the use of fabrics and prints native to Colombia.

The T Zone and these spaces are very important, transcendental, because they are a symbol of the new keys of the city of Bogotá: sustainability, commitment and innovation.
