WELCOME TO PALACE

The historic and disappeared Anglada Palace It was built in 1876 for the Duke of Anglada, who, having gone bankrupt, tried to sell it on numerous occasions, all of them unsuccessful.

The hipotecary Banc ended up seizing it and for many years, the palace served as a place for sporadic exhibitions or was uninhabited, until it was acquired by the Larios family, becoming known as Palace of Larios.

The palace survived until the mid-1960s, when it was demolished to build the hotel Villa Magna , which soon became the most distinguished hotel in the capital. The rest is history, a story that came to an end in March 2020 , when the hotel closed its doors after the declaration of the state of alarm and took the opportunity to undergo an intense renovation.

The result? A new story, yet to be told; a new adventure that does not deny the past but looks forward and stands imposingly at number 22 of the Castellana so you can look at it too. And come in, of course.

THE BOOM OF LUXURY HOTELS IN MADRID

“The new image of the Rosewood Villa Magna will position Madrid as a benchmark for luxury tourism in Europe” , highlights Borja Escalada, CEO of RLH Properties , the Mexican company that bought the hotel in 2018 and that in 2020 sealed an agreement with its new manager, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, turning the Villa Magna into the first hotel of the brand in Spain.

“Rosewood Villa Magna is going to become a symbol of the capital and the culture of the city”, Explain Radha Arora, President of Rosewood Group.

Are we witnessing the boom of luxury hotels in Madrid? Morris has no doubts: “Madrid is a city that has all the ingredients to attract luxury and hyper-luxury tourism. Madrid has history, it has a gastronomic offer wide, distinctive entertainment, has great museums , and it is the only city in the world that is less than two hours away from nine enclaves World Heritage. This not only attracts international tourism, but also visitors extend their stays, since they have much to visit”.

“As we have seen over the last year, major international hotel brands have become aware of the possibilities offered by Madrid as a capital and this will surely reinforce the experience it offers and help capturing and attracting international tourism again. Positioning the destination among a global audience and placing it as a competitive place at the level of the great european capitals , comments the hotel manager to Condé Nast Traveler.

THE NEW ROSEWOOD VILLA MAGNA

“The hotel has been renovated with a sophisticated but current style, without losing its classic touch”, assure the authors of the project. “The renovated building breathes the essence of its predecessor, the old Anglada Palace and pays homage to local tradition and culture”, they add.

Thus, the new complex is presented as a unique proposal that combines the vitality of the capital in an incomparable experience with the refined hallmark of ultra-luxury hospitality of the hotel group based in Hong-Kong.

Rosewood Villa Magna features 154 rooms, including 51 suites and two Signatures Suites, all of them characterized by a discreet elegance that does not detract from warmth and comfort, but quite the opposite. The quality of the textiles, the beautiful furnishings, the amenities... every detail counts –and a lot– to achieve this unique sensation that one feels when opening a hotel room.

And that unique feeling must have an essential component that Rosewood Hotels knows very well: make us forget that we are in a hotel. How? Offering a cozy atmosphere typical of a private residence and a careful and elegant design that is relaxed at the same time.

In short, that entering this luxury urban refuge again after a walk through the capital makes us exclaim "finally at home!" while we take off our shoes.

FOUR STUDIES AND A GREAT CHALLENGE: THE REFORM OF THE VILLA MAGNA

Four internationally renowned studios have been in charge of the hotel's renovation project. The renowned Spanish architect Ramon de Arana has taken over the spectacular “envelope” of the façade and the architectural design of the access through the central stairs with two ponds as well as the road and pedestrian accesses.

Of interior design has been commissioned BAR STUDIO , an award-winning Australian firm associated with Rosewood projects such as the Rosewood Phuket and the Rosewood Rome, which will open in 2023.

Art Link , art consultant and provider of the most exquisite hotel projects in the world has selected the contemporary art collection that we find in the hotel rooms.

Finally, Spanish landscaper and architect Gregory Maranon has taken on the important task of transforming the complex's gardens.

A SENSE OF BELONGING

The effort and dedication of the design team started from the beginning from a premise: the philosophy A Sense of Place® of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, which "is based on the principle that each hotel in its exclusive collection reflects their own history, culture and sensitivity under the common seal of service excellence”.

“One of the keys to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is managing to combine this philosophy with a residential style, in this way each and every one of the visitors feels welcomed and comfortable in our hotels, inviting you to repeat the experience over and over again” adds Charles Morris.

Thus, “all the elements that intervene in the experience of the guests –design and architecture, gastronomy, wellness, activities in the destination– they genuinely reflect their surroundings”, resulting in hospitality that is authentic, original and deeply personal.

Jesús Sánchez brings to Madrid some of its most famous dishes of the Cenador de Amos as well as innovative creations in which he adds his creative touch and contemporary vision.

There is no shortage of iconic products and preparations such as the anchovies, the squid rings or the cheeses of the Tierruca, who live with vegetables from the Navarran garden, cooked vegetables interpreted in two passes, meats and Cantabrian fish.

"We want eating in Amos to be a trip to the north, to its products, its traditional elaborations, the sea and the orchard. A trip in which to recognize a territory, a comforting trip”, affirms the Navarrese chef.

Artichoke and thistle stewed in his own cream, caricos vegetable stew with roast pumpkin, seafood ravioli with vegetables and cream of crabs, hake taco with green sauce and cockles, the calluses of Grandfather Amos either the quesada pasiega with shortbread ice cream are some of the dishes that make up the gastronomic proposal of Amós oriented towards a "sublimation of the everyday".
