It is paradoxical that the appointment with the most important photojournalism in the world was canceled last year, precisely at a time when I was narrating what was happening to us. But that was 2020, surreal in itself. That is why the arrival of the exhibition of World Press Photo this Saturday to Madrid is more anticipated than ever.

Now, finally, we can see in person award winning photographs , their claims and protests through the lens. And in this edition, it should be remembered that they are four Spanish photojournalists who are among the winners . The winning photograph has already gone around the world with a long-awaited theme such as the pandemic. the first hug It moved every viewer and stirred our emotions more than they already were. mads nissen , of Danish origin, was the author who dared to portray the embrace of Rosa Luzia Lunardi, 85, and nurse Adriana Silva da Costa Souza , in a nursing home in São Paulo.

The impact of this image may have to do with the identification of many of us in a year in which the adjective “hard” fell short. But we already know that the World Press Photo photographs contain a degree of crudeness more than necessary to exercise the complaint what they intend And that shock with reality one did not live (or live) only with Covid-19.

In the exhibition, we will attend the encounter with the work of louis tattoo , winner of the third prize in the Nature category. This time, the stamp is located in East Africa and the problem, in the fight against the plague of locusts . And in the Environment section, Aitor Garmendia He won the third prize with the portrait of one of the eternal debates today: Animal abuse in the Spanish pig industry.

But in this edition, the list of Spanish names has not been short. As we already said, although the pandemic will characterize the year 2020 for life, it was not the only thing that happened in the world. Life went on, the rest of the problems, too . Last year, we couldn't enjoy it in person, but this new edition arrives in the capital with a bang and until December 8 . Now, the conditions have changed: a reduced capacity, time slots , an expository design based on a room without internal walls and the need to buy the tickets anticipated in a manner on-line.
