Increasingly green and protected
The Madrid City Council wants to guarantee the care of the green lung par excellence of the capital and launches protect it by taking care of its fauna and flora and the historical and artistic elements that are inside , they indicate in a press release .
For it, In the early hours of July 24 to 25, the exit from the park towards the M-30 northbound through Marqués de Monistrol will be closed to traffic with the cut of the Las Moreras tunnel in order to eliminate through traffic. This road is used daily by about 5,000 vehicles as a shortcut to join the M-30, instead of making the journey from the A-5. Internal traffic, that is, those vehicles that move through the park with the intention of reaching a specific point in the Casa de Campo, will not be affected.
Regarding the protection of historical and artistic elements, this came into force on July 19 by including 73 urban elements located in the enclosure in the Catalog of Monuments and Urban Elements with different levels of protection.
Thus, three sculptural elements, 14 fountains, 11 doors, 12 walls, five bars, 12 bridges, four aqueducts, a pool and the Antequina stream dam become protected. The Casa de las Vacas and its picnic area, the Cerro de la Torrecilla, the ruins of the Casa de los Pinos and the surroundings of the Meaques and Antequina streams, and the railway line also make the list.
