He has no rival and his leadership is unquestionable. For the seventh consecutive year, Singapore's Changi Airport wins the top spot in the World Airport Awards again. Moreover, it is the tenth edition, of the 20 that have already received these awards, in which it manages to climb to the top of the classification.
Lee Seow Hiang, Executive Director of Changi Airport , commented after the award ceremony "With the future launch of our iconic Changi Jewel next month (a wonderful facility opening in April), we look forward to sharing with our passengers and airport visitors the unique Changi Experience in a new way, with a host of new facilities, offerings and experiences."
The 2019 edition also serves to make clear the dominance of Asia, that manages to sneak six representatives into a TOP 10 in which, as happened in 2018, there is no US representative.
Europe , with three airports at the top of the ranking (Heathrow, Munich and Zürich), loses strength as Frankfurt gave way to Narita, giving **Japan three names in the top 10.**
And no, there is no news of Spanish airports at the top of the classification, although Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport has been recognized with the title of Best airport in southern Europe.
The World Airport Awards are handed out by travellers, who, with their votes, contribute to elevating airports from all over the world to the top of the different categories in which they are considered the largest satisfaction survey in the aviation industry.
For the 2019 edition, the votes of 13.5 million customers of 100 different nationalities during six months , answered questions about service, check-in, arrivals, shopping, security, immigration, departure from the boarding gate… of 550 airports.
This survey assesses issues such as airport access , the public transport options to the airport, the prices and capacity of the taxi service, ease of transporting your luggage through the terminal, airport equipment (trolleys), comfort in it (atmosphere, design...), waiting hours , information panels, courtesy and efficiency of airport security, charging stations for electronic devices, lost luggage service, WiFi prices, restaurant and shopping services... you can see the full methodology at this link.
