Ibiza out of season with DJ Pascal Moscheni

A walk through Ibiza with the DJ Pascal Moscheni.

Maybe his name sounds familiar to you, but even if it doesn't, you should know that he has provided the soundtrack to many of the coolest events of recent times. Pascal Moscheni studied fashion design but ended up dedicating himself to music. “I worked for five years as a menswear designer for Neil Barrett in Milan. I already had a passion for music but it was really when I moved there and saw the fashion industry, how vast it is, that I realized there were other ways to work in it. I decided to start DJing at events, combining it with composing music for parades." Pascal tells us.

Indeed, he has created music for fashion shows, campaigns, videos and stores, for firms such as Acne, ZZegna, Dior, Cartier, Marc Jacobs, Vivetta, Kartell... Thinking back to his beginnings, he thanks one person: Marcelo Burlon, who was the one who started giving work.

“He organized the most incredible parties of Milan fashion week, with the best musicians or DJ's of the moment. He also made the soundtrack for some parades and it was through him that I learned that there was a business in this, with which I felt very identified”. For several years, Marcelo asked him to play at parties and introduced him to people from the world. "In this way I gradually made my client list and a name," recalls Pascal.

The fashion situation has changed a lot since then. “It is much faster, ephemeral, and I think that the figure of the designer dedicated to the construction of garments is threatened by a new current of artistic directors, musicians and singers launching their own brands or collaborating with others,” he muses. “It still interests me but from a much more relaxed and fun point of view. When you work on it 100%, it consumes a lot of energy and, sometimes, you don't see the point of many things…”.

Pascal just launched with Mike Pional, his partner, a music creation studio for brands, advertising and series called PamPam. “First we talk to the designers or the brand and we understand what they want to convey with his campaign, what they were inspired by for the collection and, based on that, we start creating music according to the moodboard. Everyone has their own world and we have to capture their DNA in a melody”.

They have a fully equipped studio in the center of Madrid, from which an entire album can be recorded. "Mike is really the prodigy of the instruments, there is no one who does not know how to play... I only dedicate myself to electronics". They just finished the Christmas campaign for an international makeup brand, the Lacoste campaign with Quentin de Briey, original music for a series of Mango actions on the TikTok social network and they are starting a job for Bulgari. “We want to grow as a studio and position ourselves as a reference. On a personal level, I continue to collaborate with brands on Instagram and make digital content.”

With Issey Miyake Parfums, Pascal has just carried out a very original project, which has made him particularly excited as it is very attractive to the world of perfumes. "This firm has a very strong Japanese heritage and they really like precision, I liked being able to mix my vision with theirs and see what came out."

"It looks like a carved iceberg or a modern building, its scent exudes freshness and nature," says Pascal of Fusion D'Issey perfume.

Specific, he has launched an app with them called Sounds of Fusion on the occasion of the launch of the men's fragrance Issey Miyake Fusion, in which users can play with the sounds of various elements of nature by merging them and creating music. “It's great so you can start creating a beat or some melodies in a very simple way, without needing any previous musical training, which makes it very attractive for all audiences”, Pascal comments.

TRAVELING LIFE, LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

The artist has just moved to the countryside in Ibiza, where he spends long periods when he is not working in Madrid. “Nature has the best sounds, the best colors and the best smells. It is the true luxury of this world and on top of that it is free! From it you can get endless sounds, with sand you can make a shaker, with two stones some claps, with an empty trunk, a percussive sound... it really is more fun than a conventional instrument”. What are the sounds of Ibiza? "In summer the cicadas and in winter some birds and silence."

Los Enamorados, a second home for Pascal in Ibiza.

Your places to enjoy Ibiza out of season: “Honestly, the best thing you can do is enjoy its incredible nature without the tourists. You can bathe in autumn, it's so good... Look for hiking trails, walk through Las Salinas, go out by boat and you will see dolphins".

As for gastronomy, it also has a couple of recommendations. "Here, close to home, I love some chicken milanesas that they make in Can Guimó, or have breakfast at Sabores Naturales de San Juan Market day... Also the ali-oli and the bread from Es Pins. My favorite hotel is Los Enamorados, they are like family now, in summer we are there every day”.

Born in New Zealand, of French and Argentine descent, Pascal has traveled extensively. “Since I was little, I have changed my country of residence a lot because of my father's work. Now, as an adult, it seems that pattern has stuck with me. For obvious reasons I don't travel now, but before I used to catch more than four planes a week. I think that Spain is a great great country and, in the end, it is where I find myself best, due to its ease, great geographical variety and good prices. Although Colombia also marked me a lot this year”.
