Yiwu Grand Theater in China.
It's not an optical illusion, It is the future Grand Theater of Yiwu City , in Zhejiang province, which expected to open in 2020.
This city situated on the banks of the Dongyang River It has always been known for its great commercial activity, being one of the flagship cities of the Chinese economy today. It had always focused on international trade, but it was in 2018 when decided that it was time to put it on the Asian cultural map as well , hence the construction of this magical theater.
It is popular for its port and its river along which centuries ago and since 600 BC the 'juncos' circulated, those boats that traveled the seas of Asia and Indonesia transporting goods , or, fighting in the war.
Now the city and the MAD architecture studio pays homage to them in what will be the largest cultural center in Yiwu city , a complex open to all audiences with a large theater with 1,600 seats, another medium with 1,200 seats and an international conference center with capacity for 2,000 people.
A cultural marvel.
This ambitious work refers to a boat that crosses the river, reason why it has several accesses from its banks and from a vehicular bridge . "The Yiwu Grand Theater has been designed as a monument for the city, which will serve to connect the inhabitants with the coast from a new perspective," they point out from MAD.
Great have been created stained glass windows that simulate the sails of the ship, that acquire even more beauty with night lighting. A set of transparencies and lighting that transports the visitor to a ship carried by the wind.
To reduce overall power consumption, MAD has conceived the theater with a passive solar design . Glass curtains are not only designed aesthetically, they are functional, that is, that optimize the use of natural light in interior spaces.
During the winter they keep the heat from the sun and in summer they favor the building's ventilation system . The surrounding area offers the visitor good views, squares and garden areas to enjoy the environment from the water to the surface.
