Back, back and back to places of always

Now that we are putting the finishing touch to this 2018, we want to go back to the usual places, to those restaurants that comfort us and make us feel at home. We cannot think of a better option than ** Cuenllas ** to say goodbye to this year as it deserves and fill our stomachs and spirits to face the 2019 that is upon us.

Situated in Ferraz street in Madrid (numbers 3 and 5), was in 1939 when Ángel Cuenllas inaugurated a small shop in which exquisite gastronomic products wore (and wear) their best clothes: cheeses, excellent cured meats, canned vegetables... All selected by him and, currently, by his son Fernando, who knows the world of wine perfectly and can guide you through its magnificent cellar in which wines of all denominations of origin and champagnes of first quality wait to be enjoyed.

There are dishes that are part of its history

In the doorway next door opened the bar and a small dining room at the back of the premises. A place where customer loyalty is perceived surely because the very kind treatment is one of the signs of identity of the house, that and that you eat very well.

There are dishes that are part of the history of Cuenllas and that are still as fit as the first day, among them you should not miss spider crab and prawn cannelloni with a light béchamel sauce and pasta cooked to perfection with a tasty filling.

A great advantage of this tandem formed by the grocery store and the restaurant is that (almost) any product that we fancy can be tried in the place next door, such as the excellent Güeyu preserves, probably one of the best produced in Spain today.

The tripe are another Cuenllas classic, of those that after the first spoonful you cannot stop and spread bread in the honeyed sauce is a must. Fresh foie gras and creamy mushroom and truffle rice they complete an order based on traditional dishes that are guaranteed enjoyment and that are appreciated more (even) at this time.

To accompany such a feast the wines will delight the most demanding wine lovers, a luxury for offer and quality that cannot be missed.

And we end up with some of their homemade desserts, between us, the lemon pie leaves us speechless.

These days you have to celebrate the holidays as the calendar imposes, let ourselves be carried away towards the pleasure of pampering the palate in this great bar to then fill the pantry in the grocery store and add a touch of class to our tables.

The only 'but' is that the experience can be extended until snack or dinner, but it is time for joy. Happy 2019. We will continue to enjoy a good table.
