Part of an arch of Las Catedrales beach is detached
One of the emblematic arches of the beach of the Cathedrals, in Ribadeo (Lugo), has suffered a partial detachment in its structure. The accident, which has not caused personal injury, has occurred due to natural causes.
“It is a phenomenon inherent to this coast and that is derived from the action of nature itself. that gave rise precisely to what Las Catedrales is today and that, without a doubt, will be shaped over the years”, assures the mayor of Ribadeo, Fernando Suárez Barcia, in a press release.
Suárez Barcia also explains that Predicting this type of phenomenon is impossible. reason why "the different administrations only have take preventive measures in this regard, and the neighbors and visitors of our coast have to be aware of them”.
“From the Council of Ribadeo We already warn you at the entrance of all the beaches of the danger of approaching the cliffs. In the specific case of Las Catedrales beach, the Xunta Department of the Environment itself, as manager of this protected natural area, banned public use of the top of the cliffs after the tragic fatal accident that occurred during Holy Week in 2018 and placed numerous posters warning of the risk.
